A delegation of Members of Parliament representing Kakamega County has backed Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Wycliffe Oparanya to be President William Ruto's vice-presidential candidate in the upcoming 2027 General Election.

Why did the MPs from Kakamega support Oparanya?

On Saturday, March 22, during their address, the Members of Parliament highlighted that it was an opportune moment for the Mulembe nation to assume a more significant position in the country’s political landscape.

They claimed that by structuring their resources and increasing their membership, they could negotiate more effectively leading up to the 2027 elections.

Led by Christopher Aseka of Khwisero, Members of Parliament declared their support for Ruto’s presidential bid in 2027, asserting that Oparanya is the most appropriate choice from the Western region to be his running mate.

"In 2027, when William Samoei Ruto becomes president, nobody will be around at this midway point. Individuals from Mount Kenya will support Kindiki; our relatives will present their candidate, those from the Coast region are searching for theirs, and people from Northeastern are doing the same. I urge you, Oparanya, now is your chance to run for office," Aseka stated.

The members of parliament commended Oparanya for his achievements during his tenure as the governor of Kakamega, stating their belief that he will thrive in his new role as the nation’s deputy president.

In what they called the Khwisero Declaration, the MPs stated that the only person capable of bringing change to the Western region is CS Oparanya.
