Barcelona's wing player Raphinha confessed that he was strongly contemplating departure from the team post-Copa América, yet ultimately decided against it subsequent to an important discussion with newly appointed head coach Hansi Flick.
In an interview with Globo Esporte shared on Friday, Raphinha disclosed that persistent transfer rumors and a disappointing season caused significant mental distress for him.
I didn't feel mentally at ease until Flick reached out to me. Each day brought new speculations about me joining one team or another.
"Things did not unfold as they were supposed to; I experienced a more challenging season than anticipated, and I noticed people calling for me to depart with rumors about my exit surfacing every day. I genuinely thought about stepping away," the Brazilian stated.
Nevertheless, he acknowledged that a direct phone call from Flick was crucial.
"Hansi Flick contacted me and requested that I join him for training prior to reaching a final decision, as he wished to discuss matters with me and had high expectations of me. This moment proved pivotal in my choice to remain," explained Raphinha.
The 28-year-old also mentioned that following conversations with his spouse, he was persuaded to stay at Camp Nou.
"I talked to my wife and said: If this person is just and notices the effort I'm making, I'll remain," he mentioned additionally.
Raphinha is currently performing at his peak under Flick, as Barcelona strives to contend for top honors this season.
