On Friday, the Orange Democratic Party announced a suspension of the list detailing the delegates for the grassroots elections in Dagoretti North Constituency.
The decision comes after an objection was filed by Kilimani MCA Moses Nyagaresi Ogeto.
In an announcement to the public, ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong'wen stated that the matter is currently under internal review via discussions, awaiting a conclusive decision.
"In the meantime, the delegate list for the branch ought to remain on hold until we reach a suitable resolution. We trust that both leaders, as dedicated members of our party, will address this issue with a sense of solidarity and propose a solution that bolsters ODM instead of weakening it. Please consider this matter urgent," stated Ong'wen.
Ogeto contends that many of the grassroots delegates whose names were listed by the party failed to pay the necessary fees for participating in the elections and called for the removal of these individuals' names from the roster.
"We need to conduct thorough checks to confirm we have the accurate list. Our democracy begins within ourselves, which is precisely what Baba and our party’s charter uphold," he stated.
He additionally urged his followers to permit the party to address the issue peacefully as instructed.
"As the ODM chairman for Dagoretti North Constituency, I encourage all our delegates to remain patient and composed and to keep trust in the process as we await a resolution of this matter through peaceful means," Ogeto stated.
ODM plans to initiate its community-level elections in April.
According to a notice on Thursday’s dailies, the elections come following the successful polling unit elections conducted on November 27, 2024.
The National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) stated that the branch (Ward) level elections are scheduled for Monday, April 7th.
The activity will take place at specified centers throughout the 47 counties.
"Constituency elections will take place on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at specified centers throughout the country’s 290 constituencies," stated the NECC.
