The South African soccer powerhouse Mamelodi Sundowns began their continental journey in Uganda, the homeland of famed goalie Denis Onyango, with a match at Hamis Stadium in Nakivubo on Friday, March 21, 2025.
The South African team visited the recently renovated site prior to conducting a soccer clinic at the venue on Saturday.
"By means of friendships and football clinics, the objective is to contribute to nations throughout the continent that have a passion for football," the club highlighted in their official statement.
Since joining Mamelodi Sundowns in 2011, Onyango has been a key player for the team and recently shared his enthusiasm regarding their upcoming visit.
The tour schedule had them visiting Ntanda College in Butambila on Thursday, March 20th. The following day, they proceeded to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and then made their way to SC Villa, which was once home to Onyango.
On Saturday, March 22, which marks the last day of their visit, the team will conduct football clinics at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo from 9 AM to 1 PM.
The Mamelodi Sundowns squad was under the guidance of Academy Coaches, Club Chairman Tlhopi Motsepe, the Marketing department, and goalkeeper coach Kennedy Mweene.
Led by Rogers Mulindwa, the chairman of the Hamz Stadium Organizing Committee, Onyango and the Sundowns delegation toured different sections of the stadium and participated in several indoor activities within the venue.
Here is an extensive visual representation of the trip to the stadium.
