A young organization named the Concerned Christian Youth Forum has demanded reverence towards religious leaders.
Following the detention of Festus Alilu, who leads the Word of Power Gospel Church International in Ughelli, Delta State, for allegedly releasing a defaming video about Pastor Korede Komaiya, this situation has arisen.
Alilu was detained by law enforcement officials on Thursday evening after making contentious remarks about Pastor Korede Komaiya from The Master’s Place International Church.
Following the posting of a video on his official Facebook account where Alilu charged Komaiya with deceiving congregation members through false doctrines about wealth, the arrest was made.
On Friday, during an official announcement, the head of the forum, Paul Adamu, stated clearly that Komaiya was not responsible for the arrest; instead, it was conducted by several of his supporters.
The statement says, "Attention has been brought to the Concerned Christian Youth Forum regarding the arrest of Apostle Festus Alilu due to an allegedly defamatory video he created about Pastor Korede Komaiya."
We have carefully reviewed the aforementioned video shared on social media, and the Concerned Christian Youth Forum unequivocally denounce Apostole Festus Alilu’s verbal assault on Pastor Korede Komaiya.
We view this assault as both unjustified and unprovoked, therefore, we aim to convey our heartfelt apologies to Pastor Komaiya on behalf of our community.
Following additional investigations, we found out that Pastor Komaiya did not personally order the arrest of Apostle Alilu; rather, this action was taken by several of his supporters. This underscores the significance of gathering and confirming information prior to reaching verdicts or leveling charges.
He also condemned the verbal attack on Komaiya and emphasised the need to uphold dignity and respect for Christian leaders, while urging an amicable resolution to the matter.
The Concerned Christian Youth Forum is intervening with the aim of reaching a mutually agreeable solution to this issue. This presents us with an occasion to emphasize that assaults against the Christian faith and its leadership will not be condoned moving forward. We are prepared to undertake every required measure to robustly protect Christianity and its leaders within Nigeria.
We urge all individuals to honor the Christian faith and refrain from making disparaging remarks or assaults on any religion. This kind of disruptive behavior is not acceptable in our community and should be halted immediately.
"The Concerned Christian Youth Forum is dedicated to guaranteeing that the Christian faith and its leadership receive the highest level of dignity and respect they merit," he stated additionally.
