Morocco Readies for Turbulent Weather as European Storm Looms

Morocco will likely see variable weather patterns over the next few days as a result of a powerful low-pressure system impacting Western Europe, notably France, Portugal, and Spain. This information comes from Hussein Youabed, who serves as a communication officer for the Directorate General of Meteorology.

In an interview with INSPIRATIONS DIGITALAR, Youabed stated that the forecast for Friday predicts partially cloudy skies with isolated showers across the western Rif area, which could persist through the night into Tangier, Loukkos, Rif, Gharb, and the northern Atlantic Plains near El Jadida. The Middle Atlas and Rif Mountains should anticipate snowfall, along with moderately strong gusts in various locations. Mountainous zones will experience temperatures varying from 9°C to 17°C.

On Saturday, instability will remain persistent, bringing rainfall and sporadic thunderstorms predicted across the Rif, Saïss, Gharb, Phosphate Plateau region, Oulmes, Chaouia, and Doukkala. The High and Middle Atlas ranges will see ongoing snow accumulation, accompanied by robust gusts of wind affecting southern parts, coastal zones in the center, the Rif area, and regions within the Atlas mountains which may cause increased chilling effects, potentially driving nighttime lows down to as low as -3°C in elevated terrains.

By Sunday, a new low-pressure system will lead to persistent clouds and rain, mainly affecting northwestern Morocco including the Rif, Gharb, and Saïss areas, plus the Atlas Mountains. Scattered precipitation could occur inland too, while heavy snow continues at higher elevations. The coastal zone of central Morocco, Tangier, and the east can anticipate strong gusts coupled with slightly cooler temperatures.

Early next week, the weather will continue to be unsettled, bringing anticipated rainfall to the northwestern areas, Rif region, Mediterranean coastline, and Saïss. Additionally, snow may still occur in the mountainous regions.

On Tuesday, partially cloudy skies will prevail, accompanied by sporadic rain showers in the northern and central areas. By Wednesday, we can anticipate gradual improvements in the weather, as precipitation diminishes and stable conditions spread over most zones.
