"I first express my gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for launching a nationwide initiative against obesity. Inspired by this campaign, during debates on the Health Budget, I approached Health Minister JP Nadda with multiple recommendations aimed at curbing obesity and preventing an obesity-related crisis in our country," he told ANI on Friday.

Deora highlighted the impact of sugary foods and beverages on escalating obesity rates. He proposed that imposing higher taxes on these items via GST or similar methods might help discourage their consumption.

He advocated for prohibiting ads from sugary firms aimed at kids, referencing instances from around the world.

"I proposed banning advertisements from sugary beverage companies aimed at children nationwide. Countries such as Singapore have entirely prohibited these types of ads targeted at kids," Deora said.

"Moving forward, I will be meeting with Health Minister JP Nadda, and I am confident that this encounter will mark a significant stride in our ongoing campaign against obesity, which was launched by the Prime Minister," he stated.
