WICHATA, Kan. (KSNW) – The city of Hays is looking for input on a suggested ordinance that would permit citizens to keep chickens.
A community survey is now available online , and residents are being encouraged to join in to help shape the City Commission’s decision-making process.
As per the proposed rules, inhabitants can maintain as many as five hens, but roosters will not be allowed. These chickens should only be present on lots featuring fixed constructions and have to remain inside a confined, safe enclosure.
Cities bigger than Hays, such as Salina, Hutchinson, Derby, Newton, and Garden City, presently permit backyard chickens under comparable regulations that are suggested for implementation.
