
New Delhi [India], May 24 (ANI): Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava on Saturday reviewed the matter regarding COVID-19 cases reported across multiple states, mainly from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka , among others, as per official reports.
It has been noted that the majority of these cases are minor and can be managed at home. Nevertheless, the Union Health Ministry stays watchful and is actively keeping an eye on the circumstances through various agencies, as per official statements.
As stated by the Union Health Ministry up until May 19, India reports 257 ongoing COVID-19 cases, with the majority being minor and not necessitating hospitalization. The nation keeps tracking respiratory ailments via the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) along with efforts from the ICMR.
On Saturday morning, the Belagavi district in Karnataka Meanwhile, the National Capital region identified their initial COVID-19 cases.
A 55-year-old female resident of the National Capital Region has tested positive for COVID-19, which represents the initial confirmed case in Noida within Uttar Pradesh during the current spike in infections across India.
At the same time in Belagavi, a 24-year-old expectant mother was found to be infected.
Earlier in the day, Karnataka The Health Minister, Dinesh Gundu Rao, stated that there have been 35 confirmed COVID-19 cases statewide so far this year, showing a minor rise over the past two weeks.
Multiple states, including Karnataka and Delhi , have released an advisory but have advised people not to panic.
Health experts state that there isn’t an uptick in COVID-19 cases; instead, they’re seeing isolated instances being reported.
Dr Suranjit Chatterjee, Senior Consultant in Internal Medicine at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, said on Friday, "At the moment, the situation is under control. There are, at most, sporadic cases, which are also rare. Even the present cases are being managed very easily."
"They are not requiring hospitalization. As expected, when COVID emerged, it was thought to behave like a common seasonal flu that could be managed quite readily. There is thus no cause for alarm," he added.
The Union Health Ministry continues to stay alert and active in closely tracking the developments, making sure that suitable steps are taken to protect public health. Although COVID-19 is now regarded as just another form of viral illness, fundamental safety practices like maintaining good hand hygiene, wearing masks in busy places, and steering clear of nonessential gatherings remain recommended.
