Audi and Porsche Electric Vehicle Owners Gain Access to Tesla Supercharger Network
Owners of Audi and Porsche electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States and Canada are now able to utilize Tesla's extensive Supercharger network, marking a significant step forward in expanding charging accessibility for EV drivers. This development allows access to approximately 23,500 Tesla Supercharger stalls across North America, a move that will greatly enhance the convenience of long-distance travel for Audi and Porsche EV owners.
However, the integration isn't without its initial complexities. Both Audi and Porsche are implementing a phased rollout of this service, requiring owners to navigate a few additional steps to initiate charging sessions at Supercharger locations.
Compatibility and Access
The initial rollout includes access for several Audi and Porsche models:
- Audi: E-Tron GT, Q6 E-Tron, and A6 E-Tron
- Porsche: Taycan, Macan Electric
Notably, the Audi Q4 E-Tron is currently excluded from this initial access phase, with no confirmed timeline for its inclusion.
Charging Process and App Requirements
Currently, neither the Porsche nor Audi smartphone applications directly control charging sessions at Tesla Superchargers. Plug-and-charge functionality is also not yet available. Therefore, EV owners must create a Tesla account and use the Tesla smartphone application to initiate and terminate charging sessions.
This temporary measure is expected to change in the coming months. Both Porsche and Audi are actively working to integrate Supercharger access directly into their respective applications and enable seamless plug-and-charge capabilities, streamlining the user experience.
Charging Adapters: A Necessary Component
Given that Audi and Porsche EVs currently sold in North America do not feature the Tesla-standard NACS charging port, a charging adapter is essential for utilizing Superchargers. Both manufacturers are offering branded NACS to CCS adapters to facilitate this transition. Porsche currently offers the adapter for $185, while Audi has yet to announce a specific timeline for the availability of its adapter.
Future Integration and Included Adapters
Recognizing the importance of seamless integration, both Porsche and Audi are taking steps to provide greater convenience for their customers. All new 2026 Porsche Taycan and Macan Electric models will include a NACS DC charging adapter as standard equipment. Similarly, new purchases of the 2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron, A6 Sportback E-Tron, and E-Tron GT will also come equipped with a complimentary adapter. Furthermore, compatible Supercharger locations will be integrated into the built-in navigation systems of these vehicles, enhancing the overall user experience.
Free Adapters and Software Updates for Existing Owners
To further support existing owners, Porsche and Audi are offering complimentary adapters and software updates. Owners of the 2025 Taycan and all existing Macan Electric models are eligible to receive a free adapter. Additionally, the 2024 and 2025 Macan Electric models will receive a software update by the end of the year that adds compatible Supercharger locations to the navigation map. Model year 2025 and earlier Taycan models will receive a similar update shortly thereafter.
