Diving into the Huawei GT6 Watch: A Comprehensive Review
I wouldn't consider myself an athlete of any kind, but I do make an effort to stay active and track my daily steps. When it comes to wearable technology, I'm generally drawn to gadgets that provide insights into my health, particularly concerning sleep patterns and the menstrual cycle. However, I recently discovered a device that not only covers these aspects but also offers a host of additional features: the Huawei GT6 watch.
For several weeks, I replaced my previous smartwatch with the Huawei GT6, an experience that began with a visit to Huawei's flagship store in Paris, followed by a cycling tour of the city. One of the initial things I learned about Huawei is its position as a leading brand in wearable technology globally. This is a significant claim, so the question is: does the GT6 live up to the hype?
Design and Comfort
The GT6 watch is available in two sizes: 46mm and 41mm. I chose the smaller 41mm model, finding it more suitable for both casual wear and workouts. Despite its recent launch, the watch is competitively priced.
The watch is constructed from stainless steel, providing durability while remaining lightweight on the wrist. Five different straps are available. While the chain strap offers a stylish look for both day and night, the fluoroelastomer strap is more practical for workouts, offering comfort and breathability. Unlike some smartwatches I've used in the past that have caused skin irritation, the Huawei's design remained comfortable throughout a month of wear.
The round watch face features a bezel, a button, and a rotating "Crown" for navigation, along with a lower button. The touchscreen can also be used for settings. The detachable straps are easy to swap, requiring only a flick of a small switch.
Despite opting for the smaller face, it doesn't feel too small. I personally prefer larger, more masculine watches for their aesthetic appeal and ease of time-telling. The 41mm watch face fits my wrist perfectly, avoiding issues of swiveling or getting caught on clothing.
The 1.47-inch AMOLED display is clear and bright, a design improvement by Huawei to ensure visibility in sunlight.

HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 41 mm Crafted from stainless steel, this watch is extra durable, lightweight and ultra chic. The watch face is attached to two loops to fix the interchangeable straps too. The 1.47inch AMOLED screen provides a clear and bright picture. The touch screen is easy to alternate between settings, alternatively utilise the button and scroll “crown” on the side. It features numerous health and wellbeing features to monitor your workout, heart rate, pace, route, as well as sleep, menstrual cycle and emotions. You can receive messages, calls, play music, take photos as well as tell the time, and much more. The 41mm watch is compatible with five coloured straps, including black, white leather strap, lilac fluoroelastomer, brown composite leather and gold milanese to suit your style preference.
Functionality and Features
Beyond its design, the GT6 offers a range of useful functions. It tells the time and syncs automatically with your smartphone's time zone, which is especially useful when traveling.
The watch can also connect to messages, calls, emails, and social media accounts. However, these notifications can be tailored to avoid constant distractions. You can read, answer, and respond directly from the watch, as well as play music, take photos, screenshots, and record voice memos.
Health and Fitness Tracking
The GT6 includes high-quality health and fitness features.
While many smartwatches measure heart rate, step count, calories burned, and distance, the GT6 enhances its health functions. Huawei has improved its Sunflower Positioning System for better accuracy using GNSS algorithms. This means the watch can detect workouts instantly, pause when you stop, and accurately measure routes. The watch tracks routes closely to buildings for a precise reading of distance, which is important for training.
A great feature is the ability to download a route before a workout, which the watch will then keep you on track with, even without a signal. This was useful during my cycling tour of Paris, providing directions aloud without needing to check my phone.
The watch also offers pre-programmed workouts, such as cycling, running, and skipping. During my bike ride, it even allowed me to select the style and weight of the bike for more accurate tracking.
The GT6 functions not only as a watch, piece of jewelry, phone, and laptop, but also as a personal trainer, tracking key health metrics and suggesting plans to achieve fitness goals.
Emotional Wellbeing
A standout feature is Huawei’s Multi-Dimensional Emotional Wellbeing function, taking wellness tracking to a new level. While I use an Oura ring to track sleep, body temperature, and wellbeing, the GT6 offers more in-depth metrics. It tracks heart rate, menstrual cycle, blood oxygen levels, sleep stages, wake-up rate, and respiratory rate to provide insights into sleep quality.
The GT6 can also identify emotions across 12 categories, including pleasant, unpleasant, and neutral moods, with four levels each: relaxed, satisfied, confident, excited, calm, peaceful, focused, surprised, discouraged, upset, worried, and anxious. This ability to detect a wide range of emotions is impressive. Based on your mood, the watch can suggest breathing exercises or help identify triggers. The app allows you to monitor these emotions and develop coping strategies.
In addition to these health features, the Pulse Wave Arrhythmia Analysis can detect heart health issues, which is beneficial for those with certain conditions.
Battery Life
The 41mm GT6 promises 14 days of light use or seven days of typical use on a single charge. While charging is quick, I've found that the battery life doesn't quite last a full week with moderate use. The 46mm model offers longer battery life, with 21 days of light use and 12 days of typical use.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Huawei GT6 watch offers a comprehensive suite of features. It functions as a therapist, doctor (almost), wellness guru, personal trainer, and personal assistant all in one. It is a hybrid device combining the functions of a laptop, phone, watch, camera, and various health devices.
