After weeks filled with grey, wet weather, we’re finally starting to see a glimpse of sunshine.

While we can’t wait for warm, summer days to arrive, in the meantime, the sun’s UV levels are beginning to rise, so while it certainly doesn’t feel scorching, now’s the time to make sure your SPF makes a daily appearance in your skincare routine.

However, if you’re like me, with sensitive, acne-prone skin, you’ll know how tricky it can be finding a sunscreen that doesn’t feel thick, greasy, take ages to rub in or lead to even more breakouts.

That’s why I’ve created the ultimate shopping guide to the best SPFs that do the exact opposite.

These products, tried and tested by me over years of everyday use, conceal redness, mattify oiliness, leave skin smooth, and, most importantly, don’t make my spots multiply.

There aren’t many that make the cut, but those that do are well worth a spot in your routine.

The best acne-prone SPFs

Heliocare 360° A-R Emulsion SPF50+

Don't be put off by its warm, yellow tint; it rubs into a clear, radiant finish that colour-corrects redness without adding coverage. Your skin will still feel silky soft without the stickiness, and the application starts to finish in all of 20 seconds. Give yourself a couple of minutes before applying make-up and you'll soon see you need less foundation and concealer. If, like me, your skin turns red as soon as you touch it, and a flushed, textured, tingly complexion is a regular occurrence, this is worth every penny.

E45 Sun Face Cream for Sensitive Skin SPF 50+

If you’re battling breakouts and dehydration, this hydrating, lightweight lotion sinks into the skin in seconds and won’t break the bank. There’s no whitecast, sticky residue or heavy scent that exacerbates my sensitive skin, and I can apply makeup on top almost immediately after. For less than £15, it’s a brilliant beauty bargain.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 Invisible Fluid SPF50+ 50ml

I’ve yet to find a sunscreen with a texture as light as this. It’s so fluid, it absorbs in an instant and has a matte finish, so you won’t see a hint of an oily T-zone throughout the day. The packaging is super streamlined, too, so you can pack it in your holiday carry-on or gym bag, and it will take up any space.

Byoma Ultralight Face Fluid SPF50

There’s plenty of suncreams with a matte finish, but if you prefer something more radiant, this is the SPF for you. It’s fluid but not greasy, reduces redness, and hydrates thanks to hyaluronic acid. I’d go so far as to say it’s better than the suncreams I’ve tried that cost three times as much. It’s the perfect glowy makeup base, too.

Tocobo Cotton Soft Sun Stick SPF50

This list wouldn’t be complete without a K-beauty SPF – I won’t go on holiday without it. It’s so convenient to apply, requires no rubbing in and has an invisible, matte finish on the skin. It's so weightless you'd never know you're wearing anything, and fits in your pocket. There's a silky, powder-like finish which helps to reduce the appearance of an oily T-Zone, and the formulas contain an ingredient called Anti-Sebum P which regulates oil production. Whether you're topping up on the go or don't have the time (or energy) to rub in a traditional cream, you cannot beat this.
