Important Contests in North Texas

U.S. Senate

The most significant contest on the ballot is the state-wide race for John Cornyn's U.S. Senate position. Republican voters will choose between John Cornyn and Ken Paxton. The victor will then compete against Democrat James Talarico in the November general election.

Both Cornyn and Paxton have conducted harsh campaigns, targeting each other with AI-generated advertisements and social media posts. Surveys indicate that Cornyn has the strongest chances of beating Talarico in November, although both candidates maintain an advantage over the Democrat. The real challenge in the race lies with voters who backed Wesley Hunt in the primary.

U.S. House District 33

Julie Johnsoncurrently represents District 32 but is seeking re-election in District 33 due to the latest redistricting. She faces opposition from a Democratic candidate.Colin Allred, who occupied the position prior to his unsuccessful Senate run in 2024.

The key issue is whether voters support the work Johnson has accomplished during her single term in a Republican-dominated Congress and if they have overlooked Allred's poorly managed Senate campaign against Ted Cruz.

On the Republican side, Patrick Gillespie faces off against John Sims.

U.S. House District 30

This is the seat once held by Jasmine Crockett, which she relinquished after her unsuccessful bid for the Senate against James Talarico. On the Republican side, U.S. Army veteran and attorneySholdon Daniels faces challenger Everett Jacksona local business owner and neighborhood advocate.

The Democratic party has already chosen Dallas PastorFreddie Haynes as their nominee.

U.S. House District 24

Incumbent Beth Van Duynewas the sole Republican candidate in this Tarrant County district. DemocratsKevin Burge and TJ Wareare positioned opposite each other in a runoff.

U.S. House District 5

District 5 covers portions of Kaufman County and East Texas. Current holderLance Goodenwill compete in November against the victor of the Democratic primary:Chelsey Hockett or Ruth Torres.
