Eurovision fans are convinced that history will be made tonight as Delta Goodrem is expected to take home the coveted title. Australia has never managed to secure a win in its 11-year participation in the international song contest. However, many believe this streak will come to an end in Vienna on Saturday night, following her mesmerising performance of "Eclipse." The 41-year-old was the eighth act of the evening in the Austrian capital, and UK commentator Graham Norton had high expectations for her.

The broadcaster claimed Delta would be the one to beat ahead of her performance. She more than lived up to those expectations with a powerful and electrifying show that left the crowd in awe. Graham noted the audience's reaction and suggested that Delta would be a tough competitor to beat. He said, "If the audience could crown a winner right now, they would give it to Australia. I hope her star power doesn't go against her."

Social media users on platform X shared similar sentiments, expressing their belief that the overwhelming response from the audience was a clear sign that Delta would win. One user, Tom, wrote: "SHE HAS WON SURELY! Go on Delta!" Dari added: "AUSTRALIA YES CHILLS MY GIRL IM CRYING SHES GORGEOUS AND DESERVES TO WIN." ESCVikiing commented: "The audience is going crazy after Australia." Freddie posted: "my dad sat next to me just said 'wow might as well just give the trophy to her now' YESSSSSSSSS DELTA WE LOVE YOU."

Ciara wrote: "just give delta the trophy now!" Jack said: "Delta Goodrem, in a fair world - YOU are the winner. Off the charts. INCREDIBLE flawless. She has to win. PLEASE." Ruth added: "Yes Delta!!! Sounds incredible and staging is stunning. Feels like a winner." Ryan commented: "Honestly I'll be shocked if Australia don't win this. Delta Goodrem's vocal range is off the scale incredible."

The votes are currently open throughout the Grand Final, and the winner will be announced later this evening. Although not a European country, Australia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 10 times since its debut in 2015. The nation's Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) holds associate membership of the European Broadcasting Union and has been broadcasting the event since 1983.

Eurovision has developed a dedicated and substantial following in Australia, and during its early years, domestic broadcasts either featured no commentary or used footage from the BBC. From 2010 to 2014, SBS allowed Australian viewers to participate in a televote during the final, although these votes were unofficial and did not influence the competition's outcome.

In 2012, during the contest in Baku, the SBS commentary team and Australian delegation were given their own commentary booth for the first time, a provision that has continued every year since. Australia's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 was initially planned as a one-off appearance, with a return only possible if the nation won. However, in November 2015, SVT announced that Australia would return in 2016, and the country has remained a regular participant since then.

The event consistently achieves impressive television ratings for SBS and has built a large and devoted fan base across Australia. Due to the time zone difference, Eurovision broadcasts in Australia typically air at around 5:00 a.m. AEST. The contest also receives significant coverage from mainstream Australian media and maintains a passionate cult following among committed enthusiasts each year.
