GCHQ will employ AIto assist in preventing cyber attacks, the director of the intelligence agency has disclosed.
Anne Keast-Butler announced on Wednesday that specialists have developed a "blueprint" for a newdigital defense for the nationthat would "integrate advanced agent-based AI into high-speed cyber defense systems."
It is recognized that the initiative would entrust AI with preventing cyber attacks, automating defenses utilized by the government, critical national infrastructure, and large corporations. The technology is progressing at such a rapid pace that AI ismore equipped to address cyber threats than people.
Companies would need to voluntarily participate in the service, which might be available to airlines, telecommunications firms, or other key economic entities.
The National Cyber Security Centre, which is affiliated with GCHQ, stated earlier this year that it deals with four "nationally significant" cyber incidents every week, causing a substantial impact on the UK's economy.

Reducing risk of attack
A transition to a system where AI serves as the initial layer of a so-called "cyber shield," with AI "agents" from the government interacting directly with AI "agents" in the private sector, could potentially lower the chances of a major attack.

Ms. Keast-Butler cautioned that adversarial nations are already deploying technological advancements to advance their own interests.
She stated: "Technology firms are introducing AI-powered advancements at an impressive speed, leading to unforeseen effects, as algorithms are utilized in ways that frequently fall just short of conventional warfare."
Once they become functional, quantum computers will be capable of finishing, within seconds, tasks that currently take years.
Ms. Keast-Butler also provided fresh information indicating that nearly 500,000 Russian troops have died since the conflict in Ukraine started.
She said that the high death ratebacked her claim that Vladimir Putin was "regressing on the battlefield."
Earlier estimates had suggested the number was approximately 325,000, whereas other reports did not provide a specific distinction between injuries and deaths.
The intelligence director delivered her remarks during the first GCHQ annual threat assessment lecture, addressing a group of scholars, corporate executives, and media representatives.
She urged industry leaders to collaborate with her agency in utilizing technology to address the challenges brought about by developments in artificial intelligence.
