Louisiana softball vs Troy final score, game highlights from SBC Tournament

In the comforts of Lamson Park, Louisiana softball wasn’t going to let its 2026 season come to an end.

The Ragin’ Cajuns played host for the 2026 Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship tournament and took on Troy in a win or go home first-round matchup. With their season on the line and Cajun Nation watching, the Cajuns handled Troy for a 5-0 victory to punch their ticket to the quarterfinals.

Leading the Cajuns (29-26, 12-13) past the Trojans in the circle was junior Sage Hoover. Typically, the righty is known for putting the ball in play and letting her defense work but Wednesday was a different story. She struck out batter after batter, finishing the night with her first complete game shutout as a Cajun. Hoover would go on to strikeout nine batters, just one shy of her season-high of 10 Ks.

Not only did Hoover strike batters out but she was also stingy when it came to giving up hits. She held the Trojans to just one hit through five innings of play, rendering them scoreless all game long.

While Hoover neutralized Troy’s offense, the Cajuns strung together runs anyway they could. Infielders Mia Liscano and Cecilia Vasquez lead UL’s slugging with Vasquez pushing the first runs across on a two-RBI triple. She finished the game with two hits while Liscano added two hits and run.

With the win, Alyson Habetz goes to 2-1 in SBC Championship Tournament play. The Cajuns will look to make it 3-1 as the Cajuns are set to face in-state foe and No. 1 seed UL-Monroe in the quarterfinals on May 7.

Hoover and the Cajuns are just three outs away from it now as they keep the Trojans scoreless for the sixth inning in a row. Keeping them off balance all night long has been Hoover, who is just a K shy from tying her season-high for strikeouts in a single game.

B5 | UL 5, TROY 0

Small ball is coming in handy for the Cajuns as they extend their lead once more, pulling off the squeeze play at third base. Freshman Haley Hart, who was recently named the 2026 SBC Freshman of the Year, came through with a sac bunt for an RBI.

The Cajuns weren't able to build off that but now enter the final two innings of play with a five-run cushion.

M5 | UL 4, TROY 0

For five innings, Hoover has pitched shutout softball, keeping the Trojans scoreless and with just one hit so far. The Trojans haven't been able to square anything up off of Hoover tonight, with eight of them going down with strikeouts.

B4 | UL 4, TROY 0

UL's first baseman Emily Smith drew a lead off walk to start the bottom of the fourth and Cajun freshman Miki Watts pinch ran for her. On base, with the help of the rest of UL's lineup, Watts worked her way around the bases before stealing at home on a wild pitch.

M4 | UL 3, TROY 0

The Trojans are struggling to get anything going offensively and Hoover is to blame. Typically, the Cajuns' ace arm isn't known for her strikeout ability but her swing-and-miss stuff is on point against Troy. Hoover is up to six strikeouts after four innings of work, averaging a little over a strikeout per inning.

M3 | UL 3, TROY 0

Hoover is locked in right now and there's not much the Trojans can do about it so far. The junior righty has only allowed one hit so far and has struck out five batters. In the past two innings of work, Hoover has struck out two batters each inning.

B1 | UL 3, TROY 0

Striking first in this one are the Cajuns after a big-time swing from senior infielder Cecilia Vasquez. Her deep ball into the corner of right field went for a two RBI triple, pushing the first runs across the board. Kennedy Marceaux and Mia Liscano set the table, drawing a lead-off walk followed by a bunt for a hit.

Following Vasquez's triple, sophomore Mia Norwood brought her home with an RBI single for the Cajuns' third run of the inning.

M1 | UL 0, TROY 0

With Hoover getting the start, the Trojans were sat down in order for a quick first inning of work. She struck out the first batter she faced, getting out of a full count jam.
