Donald Trump is reportedly accepting the likelihood of Democratic wins in the upcoming midterm elections and has reportedly told his advisors that he doesn’t care about the results. According to insiders, the president has also expressed frustration in private about the Republican party’s failure to pass key parts of his agenda, including a set of strict new voting restrictions.

The White House has issued a statement emphasizing the benefits of Republican governance, highlighting promises such as more money in American families' pockets, secure borders, lower prescription drug prices, better economic growth, and energy dominance. The statement was made by White House spokesman Kush Desai, who criticized the Democrats for their “radicalism,” citing actions like supporting a $4 trillion tax hike on working families, attempting to block deportations of illegal aliens, and shutting down the federal government.

In public, however, the president has shown little concern about the growing affordability crisis in the country. When asked if he was considering Americans’ financial situations amid ongoing inflation caused by the Iran war, Trump dismissed the question, stating that he doesn’t think about anyone’s finances. Instead, he focused on his priority: preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

On Friday, the president reiterated his stance, calling his previous comments about the war a “perfect statement.” Democrats quickly used this to criticize the administration, portraying it as out of touch with the struggles of ordinary Americans, especially with gas prices rising sharply.

Senator Bernie Sanders took to social media to highlight what he sees as the president's self-interest, pointing out that Trump’s family has become significantly wealthier since his election. He argued that Trump cares more about his own financial gains than the well-being of the working class.

Despite these criticisms, the president and his Republican allies have several advantages heading into the midterms. MAGA Inc., a super political action committee aligned with Trump, has raised $347 million for the election season, adding to the Republican National Committee’s $116 million in cash reserves. These funds are crucial for campaign efforts and voter outreach.

The courts have also played a role in favoring the GOP, particularly in redistricting battles. The Supreme Court recently struck down a Louisiana congressional map, narrowed the Voting Rights Act, and rejected an attempt by Virginia to reinstate a previously redrawn map. Critics argue that these decisions enable gerrymandering, which could dilute the political influence of Democrats and people of color.

Trump has also vowed to continue challenging the legitimacy of U.S. elections, announcing plans to deploy an “Election Integrity Army” to every state during the 2026 midterms. He has not ruled out sending Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents or National Guard troops to polling sites, further fueling concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.

While the president has significant financial resources and influence, voters are increasingly turning against him on economic issues. A CNN/SSRS survey conducted between April and May found that 77% of respondents believed Trump’s policies had increased the cost of living, with many blaming his decision to attack Iran and implement global tariffs.
