US President Trump Pressures Iran for a Deal

US President Donald Trump has intensified pressure on Iran to agree to Washington's terms, emphasizing the urgency of reaching a deal to end the ongoing conflict. In recent statements, Trump warned that "time is ticking" for Iran to make a decision, stating, "For Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them." This fiery rhetoric highlights the administration's determination to push for a resolution.

Talks to make an April ceasefire permanent have been stalled for weeks, with no lasting agreement reached between the US and Iran. The ceasefire, initially agreed in early April, was recently extended by Trump, but it remains uncertain whether a long-term solution can be achieved. Last week, Trump described the ceasefire as being on "massive life support," indicating that the situation is precarious.

Trump has previously used strong language, threatening to target civilian infrastructure if Iran does not comply with Washington's demands. This approach reflects a strategy aimed at forcing Tehran into a favorable agreement.

Israeli Airstrikes on Gaza

Israeli forces launched deadly airstrikes on Gaza, resulting in the deaths of at least eight Palestinians, according to health officials in the enclave. Israel's military confirmed one incident where a Palestinian militant was killed, while remaining silent on other engagements involving airstrikes and shootings. The military also reported the killing of Bahaa Baround, another Hamas commander, on Saturday.

In addition, Israel said it had killed Izz al-Din al-Haddad, the head of Hamas' armed wing in Gaza, on Saturday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel is close to eliminating all Hamas militants involved in the October 7 attack that sparked the two-year war in Gaza. He emphasized that every architect of the massacre would be eliminated.

Despite the ongoing conflict, negotiations between Israel and Hamas for a US-backed post-war plan for Gaza have been deadlocked. Since the ceasefire in October 2025, around 870 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes, along with four Israeli soldiers.

Drone Attack on UAE Nuclear Plant

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) issued a warning following a drone strike that caused a fire on the perimeter of Abu Dhabi's Barakah nuclear power plant. The defense ministry stated that three drones crossed the country's western border, with one striking an electrical generator outside the plant's inner perimeter. Investigations are underway to determine the source of the attacks, and the UAE emphasized its commitment to protecting its security and sovereignty.

The incident represents a dangerous escalation in the region, raising concerns about the safety of critical infrastructure. The Barakah nuclear power plant, the only one on the Arabian Peninsula, has never been targeted before.

UN Concerns Over Nuclear Safety

The UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), expressed "grave concern" over the drone strike near the UAE's Barakah nuclear power plant. The agency highlighted the importance of maintaining military restraint near nuclear facilities to prevent potential accidents. Emergency diesel generators were providing power to the plant's unit 3, and the IAEA remained in constant contact with UAE authorities.

Ceasefire Tensions Between Israel and Hezbollah

Despite a fragile ceasefire, Israel and Hezbollah launched strikes against each other. Israel conducted airstrikes on eastern and southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah fired around 200 projectiles at Israel and its troops. The exchange of fire occurred despite recent negotiations in Washington aimed at extending the ceasefire. However, Hezbollah, which is not under Lebanese government control, has repeatedly criticized the efforts, calling them a "dead-end path."

International Diplomacy and Regional Developments

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the Iran conflict with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, emphasizing the need for political and diplomatic processes to achieve peace agreements. Meanwhile, Pakistan's interior minister arrived in Tehran to revive stalled peace talks between Iran and the US.

Iran's chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, urged Washington to accept Tehran's proposal for peace, stating that any alternative approach would lead to failure. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi noted that Tehran had received messages from Washington indicating willingness to continue talks.

Protests and Demonstrations

Thousands of people gathered in central London for Nakba Day rallies, commemorating the displacement of over 700,000 Palestinians during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. The event continues to shape Palestinian identity and has gained renewed significance amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Meanwhile, a far-right rally led by Tommy Robinson also took place, highlighting the complex social dynamics in the city.
