A Milestone in Medical Education and Healthcare
Dubai witnessed a significant moment in the history of medical education as the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) celebrated its 10th anniversary with the graduation of its Class of 2026. The ceremony, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, was attended by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dubai Health and Chancellor of MBRU. This event marked not only the culmination of years of academic pursuit for the graduates but also a testament to the university’s commitment to excellence in healthcare.
A Celebration of Excellence and Achievement
The graduation ceremony saw 184 graduates from 40 different academic programs across various medical disciplines. These graduates came from the College of Medicine, Hind Bint Maktoum College of Nursing and Midwifery, Hamdan Bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine, and the Deanship of Graduate Medical Education. Each graduate represents a unique journey of dedication, perseverance, and passion for the medical field.
H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum praised the graduates and their families, emphasizing their role in shaping the future of healthcare. Aisha Miran, Director General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai, delivered the commencement address. The Legacy of MBRU
Over the past decade, MBRU has achieved numerous milestones that have solidified its position as a leading academic and healthcare institution. In 2016, the university inaugurated its College of Medicine, laying the foundation for transformative clinical advancements. This was followed by the launch of Dubai’s first organ transplant programme, which marked a significant step forward in clinical care.
In 2018, a medical team from MBRU and Dubai Health’s Al Jalila Children’s Hospital performed Dubai’s first pediatric kidney transplant and conducted the UAE’s first whole genome sequencing, showcasing the university’s commitment to innovation and precision medicine. These achievements underscore MBRU’s role in advancing medical science and improving patient outcomes.
Expanding Horizons in Healthcare Education
In 2019, MBRU partnered with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre to launch an advanced training programme in medicine and scientific research for astronauts. This initiative highlighted the university’s forward-thinking approach and its commitment to exploring new frontiers in healthcare. The establishment of the College of Nursing and Midwifery in 2020 further expanded opportunities for the education and development of future healthcare professionals.
In 2022, the university celebrated the graduation of the ‘Class of Khalifa,’ marking the first graduates from both the College of Medicine and the College of Nursing and Midwifery. The following year, the College of Nursing and Midwifery was named in honor of H.H. Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, recognizing her enduring support for healthcare and education.
Global Recognition and Impact
To date, MBRU has graduated more than 500 alumni across its academic programmes, with many securing residency positions at leading institutions globally. These include Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, UMass Chan Medical School, and the University of Toronto. The university’s contributions to scientific advancement are equally impressive, with over 2,362 research publications in internationally peer-reviewed journals and the establishment of 10 research centres across diverse medical disciplines.
MBRU has also developed strategic academic and clinical partnerships with leading international institutions, including Queen’s University Belfast and Mediclinic. These collaborations reflect the university’s integrated approach to care, learning, and discovery, translating scientific knowledge into practical impact.
