Honda's Compact New Naked Sportbike: Big Sense in Small Package

What do you think about a naked street fighter with an engine capacity under 200cc? Also, it comes with a price tag below $2,000.

For an extended period, commuter motorcycles were all about functionality trumping design—simple, unexciting, and solely aimed at transporting you from point A to point B. However, recently, some intriguing developments have emerged, especially within the Asian market.

Manufacturers are coming to understand that commuter vehicles don't have to be dull. Actually, these can be fashionable, enjoyable, and perhaps somewhat thrilling. Consider what Yamaha did with the MT-15 and XSR155 —smaller editions of their mid-sized sport bikes. Suzuki has joined this trend with the GSX-S150 and GSX-R150, which draw inspiration from their larger GSX counterparts.

And now, Honda He's back in the game with the 2025 Hornet 2.0 in India.

In terms of design, this vehicle is entirely reminiscent of a Honda Hornet.

The title 'Hornet' holds significant importance within Honda's range of models. In Europe, this designation adorns one particular model. CB750 Hornet and CB1000 Hornet — both suitable for middleweights and lightweight streetfighters. Although the Hornet 2.0 falls short compared to these in terms of performance, it adopts their assertive design philosophy and presents it as a user-friendly, daily-rideable option. This is precisely what makes this motorcycle intriguing, particularly within the Indian market context.

The core of the Hornet 2.0 features a 184.40cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine compliant with the updated OBD-2B emissions standards. This powerplant generates 16.8 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and delivers 15.7Nm (11.6 lb-ft) of torque at 6,000 rpm. While these figures are somewhat reduced compared to previous models, we must remember that this bike is primarily designed as a commuter rather than a racing or high-performance vehicle. Known for their robust engines, Honda has once again delivered reliability; this particular unit comes equipped with a five-speed transmission and includes a slip-and-assist clutch, ensuring seamless shifting during urban commutes.

For the year 2025, the most significant update doesn't involve the engine or chassis; instead, it's all about technology. The new Honda Hornet 2.0 comes packed with advancements that elevate it towards the realm of high-end naked motorcycles. This model boasts a 4.2-inch TFT screen offering smartphone integration through Bluetooth, along with Honda’s RoadSync application, GPS-based guidance, and message notifications. In terms of safety enhancements, it includes dual-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) as well as Honda’s Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)—a sophisticated term for traction control—which is just beginning to gain popularity within this category.

The standout feature of this update is the introduction of a new full-color TFT screen.

What Stops Us From Having Wonderful Things?

  • Hold On, Why Is Canada Getting Three Stylish Hondas That Aren’t Available in the U.S.?
  • Yamaha has produced one million R15 sport bikes, but they still haven’t made their way to the U.S. market.

In terms of mechanics, Honda has kept things largely unchanged. The Hornet 2.0 continues to use a diamond-shaped frame, complemented by a golden-colored upside-down front fork and a preload-adjustable single shock absorber at the back. Stopping power comes from a pair of discs—276 mm up front and 220 mm at the rear—with dual-channel anti-lock braking system included. Weighing just 142 kilograms (about 313 pounds), this motorcycle remains agile and manageable for everyday riding. Additionally, its 12-liter fuel tank ensures good mileage before needing another refill.

Honda has set the price of the Hornet 2.0 at Rs 156,953, equivalent to approximately $1,895 USD. This means you can have a genuine, stylish sports naked motorcycle for less than $2,000. People in the U.S. would likely be thrilled with such an offer. Additionally, Honda is known for producing motorcycles that consistently perform without issues. The Hornet 2.0 adheres precisely to this standard.
