Salam Calls for Security Measures as State Solely Wields War and Peace Decisions

On Saturday, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam contacted Defense Minister Michel Menassa following the launch of three rockets towards Israel from southern Lebanon. He emphasized the importance of implementing comprehensive security and military precautions to ensure that only the state has the authority to make decisions regarding war and peace.

Salam also cautioned against resuming military operations along the southern frontier, stating that "this poses a danger of plunging the nation into another conflict, which would inflict calamities upon Lebanon and its people."

Additionally, the prime minister conducted telephone conversations with U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, urging the United Nations to "increase international pressure on Israel to completely withdraw from Lebanese soil since this occupation breaches Resolution 1701 and the agreements concerning the end of hostilities endorsed by the former administration in November, which Lebanon upholds."
