The women's and men's teams from APR have earned their places in the finals of the 2024/25 national volleyball league playoffs following victories over Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) and Kepler respectively during the semifinal matches hosted at Petit Stade Indoor Gymnasium on Friday. Their achievement echoes what happened in the previous season when both military-backed clubs made it through to the 2023/24 championship rounds and emerged victorious in each division.
In the initial encounter of the women's playoff semis, APR decisively beat RRA across all three games, securing their spot in back-to-back finals. Despite coming prepared with intentions to level the playing field after their prior loss to APR via tiebreaker the past week, Elia Mutabazi’s team faced an insurmountable challenge as Peter Kamasa’s squad prevailed comfortably with scores of 24-26, 22-25, and 25-20.
For the male contingent, APR triumphed over last year’s runners-up, Kepler, also sweeping them away in just three sets en route to clinching a berth in the finale. Starting strong, APR took control early by winning the opening frame 25-22. Although Kepler introduced fresh faces midway through the second round, including substituting standout player Wickliff Dusenge mid-set, this strategy failed to sway the outcome which ended up being won narrowly by APR 25-23 thanks largely to key contributions from Hakeem Mukaila who sealed victory for his team. Ultimately, ARP completed their triumphant run by claiming the deciding set 25-22 thereby dethroning Fidele Nyirimana's group.
Further semi-final contests will resume on Saturday, March 22nd at Petit Stade indoor gymnasium:
Women: Police WVC versus Kepler WVC—starting at 4 PM.
Men: Police VC facing off against Rwanda Energy Group (REG)—beginning promptly at 6 PM.
