Accra, March 21, GNA - Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that Ghana intends to utilize its complete membership status within the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) to enhance relationships among Anglophone and Francophone African nations.
At the 55th anniversary flag-raising ceremony for La Francophonie in Accra, he highlighted Ghana's dedication to common principles such as democracy, human rights, cultural variety, and environmental sustainability.
Ghana, led by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, aims to leverage its newfound standing within the OIF to champion the shared values and ideals that unite us.
"We express our dedication to fostering connections between Ghana and both Anglophone and Francophone groups," stated Mr. Ablakwa.
The Minister highlighted Ghana's commitment to promoting regional peace, stability, and common values such as democracy, human rights, cultural diversity, and sustainable growth.
He highlighted the significance of advancing these principles, particularly considering the present geopolitical landscape both regionally and globally.
"Indeed, within the framework of our present regional and international setting, the advocacy for these principles has grown increasingly crucial," he stated.
In recognition of Ghana’s attainment of full membership status, Mr. Ablakwa commended Ambassador Thai Hong Mai, the West African representative from the OIF, along with her team and various member states for their efforts.
Ghana achieved complete membership in October 2024.
Mr. Maher Kheir, who serves as the Ambassador of Lebanon and is also the President of the Group of Francophonie Ambassadors, noted that Ghana's accomplishment highlighted its dedication to bilingualism, collaboration, and involvement with the Francophone community.
"More than ever, Ghana is well-positioned to take on a significant role within ECOWAS and regional diplomatic efforts, serving as a bridge between English-speaking and French-speaking nations in Africa," he stated.
