Cockatoo's Adorable Doubt About His New Toy Will Melt Your Heart

Birds are skeptical of basically everything. They just don't like new things, new people, new places... They're wary of everything, and that's totally fine. Over time, they adjust to the sights and sounds of your home, and they'll adjust to you, too.

On Monday, May 19th, a cockatoo received a new plaything, and he wasn’t quite certain how to react. While he adores every aspect of his living space, strangely enough, this particular bird appears convinced that his toy is more an adversary than an ally.

Milo the Cockatoo He has every reason to feel a bit concerned about his new toy. He’s never laid eyes on anything quite like it before!

Milo is a Moluccan Cockatoo, simply indicating his striking peachy-orange plumage. He resides in North Carolina alongside his mother, and has maintained an active presence on TikTok since 2022. Although specifics about when he joined their family or whether he came from a rescue background remain unclear, one thing is certain—he’s quite a theatrical companion.

His new toy is not shown in this video: it's off-camera while Milo goes bonkers and puffs up like crazy. In a follow-up video, we do get to see the toy: it's one of those "realistic" looking plastic dinosaur toys. Those used to scare me as a kid, too, so I feel his pain!

Cockatoos enjoy and require toys, yet it’s perfectly typical for them to show some hesitation when encountering something unfamiliar. This cautious behavior might occur whether you’re putting the toy inside their cage or letting them interact with it externally; novel objects often startle them. This reaction tends to be more pronounced particularly with bigger items that seem intimidating to them.

Although not every cockatoo may be fond of a somewhat frightening plastic dinosaur, they do love:

  1. Rope toys.
  2. Paper toys for them to tear apart.
  3. Puzzle toys.
  4. Toys stuffed with delicious treats for searching.

When introducing a new toy to your Cockatoo, proceed cautiously: avoid thrusting it into their field of vision or compelling them to interact with it. Otherwise, the toy could end up being ignored. Milo treatment!
