Egypt has firmly and unambiguously rejected assertions spread by certain media sources suggesting it is ready to temporarily move 500,000 Gazan inhabitants to a specific town in Northern Sinai for the purpose of reconstructing Gaza.
On Friday, March 21, 2025, the Egyptian State Information Service (SIS) released a statement refuting these groundless claims. The SIS emphasized that these assertions starkly and entirely conflict with Egypt’s steadfast and principled position since the onset of the genocidal campaign against Gaza in October 2023.
"Egypt firmly and unambiguously opposed any effort to either force or encourage the displacement of Palestinian brothers and sisters from their current locations within Gaza to anywhere else, particularly into Egyptian territory. This move would be seen as undermining the Palestinian cause and posing a direct risk to Egypt’s national security," according to SIS.
It concluded its statement by emphasizing that Egypt's steadfast and clear position forms the basis of the plan it presented at the recent Cairo-hosted emergency Arab summit for Gaza's reconstruction. "This plan, which Egypt proposed to support Gaza's rebuilding without relocating a single Palestinian brother or sister from the Palestinian territories, was unanimously approved by the summit."
