The Acting Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, welcomed a senior delegation from the Burkinabe government to the organization’s main offices.
Led by Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), Colonel (Retired) Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, the delegation comprised several key figures from Burkina Faso: Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Artisanal Trades, Serge Poba; Minister of Energy and Mines, Yacouba Zabré; and Minister of Environment, Hygiene, and Sanitation, Mr. Roger Baro, along with Burkina Faso’s ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency David Kabre.
Representatives from different areas of the Burkinabe economy were also in attendance to boost trade ties between Ghana and Burkina Faso.
The delegation from Burkina Faso reiterated its dedication to enhancing commercial relations with Ghana, highlighting their inclination towards using Ghana’s ports primarily for transit trade across the members of the Alliance of Sahel States.
Brigadier General Tanye-Kulono affirmed to the delegation GPHA's commitment to promoting trade expansion and enhancing economic prospects for both countries.
We are dedicated to achieving the vision set forth by our leaders in increasing trade and improving the quality of life for our people.
Our aim is to travel to Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to investigate opportunities for enhanced cooperation and expanded transit trade. Please be confident that we will undertake all required measures to guarantee a smooth and effective trading atmosphere," he asserted.
He also emphasized the continuous initiatives aimed at lowering the expenses associated with conducting business at Ghana’s ports. He disclosed that talks with customs officials and other important parties are underway to introduce a round-the-clock operation system throughout the process of clearing goods.
Colonel (Retired) Larry Gbevlo-Lartey emphasized President John Dramani Mahama's dedication to strengthening diplomatic relations between Ghana and Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. He encouraged all parties involved to play an active role in projects aimed at boosting commerce and elevating the quality of life throughout these nations.
"The Presidents of Ghana, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger have talked about establishing robust bilateral ties to enhance the quality of life for their citizens. Therefore, I would like to encourage everybody to take part—not just in what has been requested of them—but also in generating ideas that can lead to practical solutions," he stressed.
This gathering represents a crucial advance in bolstering economic relationships and easing trade processes between Ghana and Burkina Faso, setting the stage for enhanced collaboration across the Sahel area.
