Makinde Urges New Nursing Students: Reject Exam Malpractice

On Friday, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, motivated 147 newly admitted students at the state College of Nursing and Midwifery to approach their studies with an open mindset and avoid any form of exam misconduct.

During the second convocation ceremony of the college, which took place in the main hall in Eleyele, Ibadan—the state capital—he shared this guidance.

Representing the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Soliu Adelabu spoke as the governor stated, "A major stride towards advancing healthcare in Nigeria has been achieved with the enrollment of 147 new nursing program students."

This matriculation ceremony, being the college’s second for the national diploma program, represents an important step for these aspiring nurses as they embark on their path to becoming healthcare professionals.

I thus encourage you to approach each lesson with an open mind and avoid exam misconduct.

Makinde highlighted the significance of resilience within the nursing field, encouraging practitioners to maintain the college’s stringent standards of morality and ethical behavior.

The governor additionally restated his government’s dedication to the educational framework within the state, with particular emphasis on nursing education.

Previously, Gbonjubola Owolabi, the Provost of the College, offered her congratulations to the students and encouraged them to follow the college’s regulations, emphasizing their role as representatives of the institution.

“I want to emphasize to our graduating students that you are now representatives of this esteemed institution. Strive for excellence as your guiding principle, and may you continue to make significant contributions to the field of nursing and to society as a whole," she stated.

She motivated the students to prioritize their studies and commit fully to reaching their academic objectives.

"Our program aims to provide you with the crucial theoretical understanding, hands-on abilities, and moral foundation needed for a successful career in nursing," she explained.

The Director of Nursing Services, Arinade Oyebode, urged the students to familiarize themselves with the ethical standards of the nursing field.

A nursing professor at the University of Ibadan, Chizoma Ndikom, urged the students to focus on their academics and commit fully to attaining their educational objectives.
