The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has promised Dr. George Moghalu, who formerly served as the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, that he will ensure fair competition among all contenders vying for the party’s nomination for the upcoming gubernatorial election in Anambra State scheduled for November.
Despite this, the LP national chairman asserted that he did not have a preferred candidate nor any personal stake in the outcome of the April 5 primary election.
Abure made the commitment upon receiving Moghalu’s fully filled expression of interest and nomination papers at the party headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
He stated, "Make no mistake about this: it is the residents of Anambra State, particularly the LP members, who will decide who secures the party’s nomination."
I urge you to return to Anambra to take necessary actions by gaining the favor of the local populace, particularly the party members who are tasked with selecting the candidate.
I want to unequivocally state that there will be no favoritism like in 'The Godfather,' and we do not have a chosen candidate. The process will not be biased toward any contender. I assure you once more that the process will be transparent, impartial, and trustworthy.
When we encounter people with noble intentions, we welcome them with open hearts. It’s no surprise that we extend every possible support when you choose to join the LP. Based on your journey so far, we believe that you are among those trustworthy individuals who, if granted the opportunity, would work for the betterment of the people in Anambra.
At the beginning of his speech, Moghalu expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership for providing him with this chance.
The ex-NIWA director likewise vowed not to let down the party as they aim to secure the LP nomination and eventually triumph over the current Governor Charles Soludo in the November polls.
He stated, "Mr. Chairman, rest assured that I won’t disappoint you. Entering this gubernatorial race for our state, my resolve is set on securing victory, and together, we shall triumph through divine favor."
I sincerely recognize that authority stems from God, and He bestows it upon whomever He chooses. Our role has been to position ourselves as vessels and let God decide. The chance to wave our party’s banner enables us to strive for a state that truly belongs to us.
