Nigeria Absent from World's Happiest Countries Top 100 List in 2025

In the 2025 World Happiness Report, Nigeria did not manage to secure a spot among the globe's top 100 happiest nations.

The report highlighted by Tribune Online indicates that Nigeria was placed at 105th spot in the recent worldwide evaluation. Meanwhile, Finland continued to hold its title as the planet's happiest nation for an uninterrupted eight years. Conversely, the United States fell to its lowest rank ever, coming in at number 24.

The report, released on the United Nations' International Day of Happiness celebrated on March 20, links the decrease in nations such as the U.S. and some European regions to declining happiness metrics and eroding social cohesion.

On the contrary, studies showed that generosity and community cohesion continue to be undervalued as contributors to well-being.

Your fellow citizens are actually better than they believe themselves to be, and recognizing this truth will undoubtedly bring you greater happiness," noted John Helliwell, one of the founding editors of the report. "Moreover, it will alter how you perceive those around you.

The report utilizes Gallup World Poll information from more than 140 nations, incorporating life assessments along with six crucial factors: gross domestic product (GDP) per person, social assistance, life span, autonomy, benevolence, and views on corruption.

"Nordic nations such as Finland reap advantages from their comprehensive and top-notch healthcare, educational, and social welfare programs. They also exhibit minimal disparity in well-being," stated Ilana Ron-Levey, who serves as the managing director at Gallup.

Costa Rica and Mexico broke into the top 10 for the first time, with rankings of sixth and tenth respectively.

Other leading nations encompass Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, and the Netherlands.

At the same time, Afghanistan stays at the lowest position with rank 147, succeeded by Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Malawi, and Zimbabwe.
