Osimhen Breaks Eagles' Goal Record, Surpassing Odegbami's Legacy

Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen has eclipsed the legendary striker Segun Odegbami in Nigeria's list of top goal scorers following his 24th goal for the nation scored during Friday's pivotal 2026 World Cup qualifier match against Rwanda.

The Galatasaray forward found themselves on the receiving end of a high freekick from Ademola Lookman, redirecting the ball into the net with precise control at the far post, giving Nigeria the advantage in the match.

Aiming high, Osimhen has climbed to the second position on Nigeria's scoring list and is now pursuing the late Rashidi Yekini’s record of 37 goals.

Osimhen, participating in his initial match of the 2026 World Cup qualification rounds, netted his 24th goal during his 39th outing with Nigeria.

Last November, he matched Odegbami's record when Nigeria drew 1-1 with the Benin Republic in a 2025 AFCON qualifier match.

During this season, the player, aged 26, has demonstrated excellent form, scoring 20 goals and providing four assists across 20 matches in the Super Lig for league-leading Galatasaray.

He has scored 26 goals and provided five assists in 30 matches overall.
