The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has toured the Mayigi Community Comprehensive School located in Ilase within the Ipokia Local Government Area. This visit comes after a recent rainstorm damaged several classrooms at the institution, resulting in tragic consequences: a 14-year-old student lost their life, while six people—including two teachers, the school’s food provider, and her infant—were injured as a result of this incident.
During the visit, Governor Adebayo Samariya, who was represented by his deputy, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele, affirmed that both the necessary quality and integrity assessments would be conducted on the school buildings prior to their utilization.
He disclosed that it has been decided the school building won’t be utilized until after the structural integrity test is finished. Should the test prove satisfactory, they plan to reinstall the roof so the students can use it right away.
The Governor additionally committed that the government will use every means possible to prevent similar incidents from recurring in its educational institutions. He further mentioned that the Zonal Education Officer has been tasked with inspecting schools throughout the area to locate and address any neglected structures, thereby safeguarding students from potential hazards.
Abiodun, who likewise went to see the other people injured in the building collapse being treated at the General Hospital Ipokia, stated that his administration continues to be dedicated to providing high-quality and extensive education for all school-age children throughout the state.
The state leader took this chance to meet with the parents of the late student, expressing condolences for their loss and assuring government backing as well as the ongoing security of students by maintaining proper conditions of school facilities.
On behalf of the family, Mr. Moses Amosun expressed gratitude to State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, Deputy Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, and other members of the state delegation. He acknowledged that although this was a distressing time for them, their appreciation grew knowing that the support from the state government made them feel less isolated.
Accompanying the Deputy Governor of Ogun State were several officials including Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, who serves as the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology; Honorable Bisi Oyedele, representing Ipokia in the state House of Assembly; the Permanent Secretaries from both the Ministry of Education and the Teaching Service Commission; the Principal General Supervisor of Yewa Block; the Chairman of Ipulia Local Government; and His Royal Majesty, Oba Alase of Ilase, HRH John Adewale Olaifa, along with others.
