Eurovision Fans Angry as Czechia Denied Second Performance Due to Technical Issues
A Technical Glitch at Eurovision 2026 Sparks Outrage
Eurovision fans have taken to social media to express their frustration after Czechia was denied the chance to perform again following a technical malfunction during Daniel Žižka’s performance of "Crossroads" in Vienna. The incident has sparked a heated debate about the rules and fairness of the competition.
During the performance, the screen experienced glitches as Žižka sang and danced through a chamber of mirrors. Viewers online quickly pointed out that the issue appeared to be a camera malfunction. UK commentator Graham Norton even mentioned the problems, noting that they didn’t occur during rehearsal. He also highlighted that a cameraman fell over while filming, adding to the chaos of the moment.
Despite the technical difficulties, Žižka managed to complete his performance. However, fans watching from home were quick to ask whether he would be given the opportunity to perform again. This question led to a broader discussion about the rules governing such situations.
According to Eurovision rules, performers are allowed to request a re-performance if a malfunction disrupts their routine. In 2010, Spain’s entry, Daniel Diges, was granted a second chance after a stage invader interrupted his song. This precedent raised hopes that Czechia might receive similar treatment.
It was soon confirmed that Czechia’s delegation had officially submitted a claim to the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) requesting that they be allowed to perform again. A poll was launched asking whether Czechia should be given another chance, with fans divided on the issue.
However, the EBU reportedly denied the request. Their statement read: “There was a small camera issue during the performance of Czechia’s song at the Grand Final. The performance and audio were not affected, so the song will not be performed again.”
Fans were outraged by the decision and took to platforms like X to voice their opinions. One user wrote, “Outrageous decision. Completely ridiculous and unfair.” Another claimed, “IT WAS NOT A MINOR ISSUE,” while a third added, “What a terrible take. And what an easy win to get broadcasters to like the EBU again.”

Many fans felt that the technical issues were particularly unfortunate for Czechia, which was considered a strong contender. One user wrote on X: “Camera malfunction during Czechia is actually diabolical Eurovision when I get you.” Another commented, “Huge shame about the technical issues for Czechia, cameraman issues? A stunning voice, one of my favs, will hopefully do well, but yeah #eurovision.”
Some fans even went to the trouble of consulting the Eurovision rulebook, searching for any possible loophole that might allow Žižka to sing again. Meanwhile, another user compared the situation to Zoë Më’s problems in the semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, saying, “Why did it have to happen to him? 😭 Last year it was Zoë. Always my favourite.”
While most viewers believed the malfunctions may have hurt Czechia’s chances, not everyone shared this view. One user wrote, “Czechia came to Eurovision 2026 like they had a concept, a smoke machine, and exactly zero interest in explaining the plot.” It seems that opinions on the matter remain divided.

As the controversy continues, fans remain hopeful that the EBU might reconsider its decision. For now, the focus is on the performance itself and how it could impact the overall outcome of the competition. Whether or not Czechia gets a second chance, the incident has already sparked a lively conversation about the importance of technical reliability in such high-profile events.
