A Platform for Innovation and Future Leadership
At the Qatar Science & Technology Park, the Qatar Foundation Schools Showcase brought together students from various schools under the Qatar Foundation (QF) to present their innovative projects. This event highlighted the diverse range of ideas and solutions developed by young minds in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, sustainability, science, technology, arts, and interdisciplinary research.
The showcase was attended by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation, and Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation. The event, organized by QF’s Pre-University Education (PUE), emphasized the foundation’s commitment to fostering innovation-driven learning and connecting students with real-world environments where they can present their ideas and engage with industry experts, researchers, and QF alumni.
Fostering a Culture of Innovation
The showcase provided an interactive platform that brought students from QF schools together with partners from academic and industry sectors. It also allowed them to present their projects to the wider community, showcasing the role of education in preparing a generation capable of transforming ideas into solutions and future-focused innovations.
Abeer Al Khalifa, President of QF’s Pre-University Education, highlighted the importance of early talent development, stating, “Showcases such as this demonstrate that talent development does not begin at university or in the workplace, it starts much earlier, in our schools.” She explained that creating platforms like these helps position K–12 education as a key part of Qatar’s long-term talent development journey.
Al Khalifa further emphasized that by connecting students with researchers, industry partners, and innovators across QF’s multiversity ecosystem, the foundation is strengthening the link between education and the future economy. This approach reinforces the importance of innovation, leadership, and problem-solving from the earliest stages of learning.
Expanding Learning Beyond the Classroom
The QF ecosystem, which includes policy and research centers, partner universities, and QF alumni, enables students to engage directly with experts from diverse fields. These interactions help students strengthen their communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities while gaining a deeper understanding of how their work can translate into meaningful impact.
Al Khalifa also emphasized the importance of public platforms for students to showcase their work, stating, “Ideas flourish when they are shared, and students who dedicate genuine effort to their work deserve opportunities to present it to the wider community and be recognized for what they have achieved.”
Real-World Application and Student Growth
Mehdi Benchaabane, Vice President of QF Schools within QF’s Pre-University Education, explained that the showcase was intentionally held at Qatar Science & Technology Park to give students an experience of a real innovation ecosystem. He said, “We want our students to feel that they are already part of it.”
The showcase featured around 50 student projects addressing real-world challenges across artificial intelligence, sustainability, health, and culture. Industry partners, including Qatar Science & Technology Park, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council, Qatar National Library, and QF alumni, participated in the event, allowing students to see the direct connection between their projects and Qatar’s future priorities.
Benchaabane explained that the IB Middle Years Program Personal Project forms the academic foundation of the showcase. Students are encouraged to identify real-world challenges, conduct research, and develop meaningful projects. The showcase itself provides a platform where these ideas move beyond the classroom into real-world application.
Building Confidence and Communication Skills
When students stand before industry experts and QF alumni to present and defend their projects, they transition from being learners in a classroom to becoming innovators capable of communicating their ideas with confidence. Benchaabane emphasized that presenting projects, responding to questions, and engaging directly with audiences play a significant role in building students’ confidence and personal growth.
He noted that encouraging students to present in both Arabic and English through dual-language programs strengthens their academic and professional communication skills in both languages. Additionally, the transformation students experience after participating in the showcase is “significant and impactful,” as many initially view their projects as academic requirements but later see them as ideas with real potential for future development and application.
A Lasting Impact on Students
Allowing students to curate their booths and present their projects to the public fosters a stronger sense of ownership and responsibility toward their ideas. This experience builds confidence that continues to shape them long after the showcase ends. When students hear from an expert or a QF alumnus that their project has real potential, it changes the way they see themselves and their future.
This event not only highlights the achievements of students but also reinforces the role of education in shaping a generation of leaders and innovators ready to contribute to Qatar’s future.
