The Deepika Case: A Tragic Dowry Death in Greater Noida

The tragic case of 24-year-old Deepika, who died under mysterious circumstances in Greater Noida, has sparked widespread concern and scrutiny. As the investigation continues, the postmortem report has brought new questions to light, revealing severe injuries that raise serious doubts about the cause of her death.

What the Postmortem Report Revealed

According to the postmortem report, Deepika suffered from a brain bleed, rupture of internal organs, and multiple contusions on her body. Bleeding was observed from her left nostril and mouth, and a hematoma was found in the middle and left sides of her brain. The liver, spleen, and right kidney were ruptured, and there were signs of contusions on her arm and thigh.

Despite these findings, the exact cause of death remains unclear. Police at the Ecotech-3 station had previously stated that doctors had not yet provided a final opinion.

The Circumstances Surrounding the Death

Deepika died on Sunday night after allegedly falling from the terrace of her three-storey matrimonial home in Jalpura village, located in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar district. However, her family has strongly contested this claim, alleging that she was murdered by her in-laws over dowry demands. They have also denied it was a suicide or an accident.

The police have arrested Deepika’s husband, Hrithik (26), and her father-in-law, Manoj, while efforts are underway to apprehend other accused individuals named in the FIR registered under provisions related to dowry death.

The Family's Allegations

Deputy Commissioner of Police Shailendra Kumar Singh mentioned that the case was registered based on a complaint lodged by Deepika’s father, Sanjay Nagar. According to the complaint, Deepika called her father on Sunday afternoon while crying and allegedly told him that her in-laws were assaulting her over dowry demands.

The family claimed that the in-laws were demanding a Toyota Fortuner SUV and an additional Rs 45-50 lakh in cash. Sanjay Nagar stated that he and some relatives went to Deepika’s matrimonial home around 7 pm on Sunday to resolve the dispute. He alleged that around 12.30 am, the family received a call from the in-laws informing them that Deepika had suffered a fall and asking them to reach Sharda Hospital.

"When I reached the hospital, I found my daughter lying dead," Nagar said, alleging that her body bore multiple injury marks and what appeared to be wounds caused by a screwdriver. "My daughter has been killed for dowry," he added.

Discrepancies in the In-Laws' Story

Nagar also pointed out discrepancies in the versions given by the in-laws about the incident. He claimed that they initially said Deepika had fallen from the stairs but later changed their story to say she fell from the roof.

On Monday, Deepika’s family alleged that the nature of the injuries on her body did not align with a fall from height. Instead, they claimed there were marks suggesting assault.

The Family's Claims About the Injuries

Speaking to PTI on Monday night, Deepika’s father alleged that his daughter's body bore marks that appeared to have been caused by a screwdriver. Her aunt, Geeta Devi, alleged that Deepika was pushed from the building and later either stabbed or shot when she survived the fall.

The family further claimed that Deepika was subjected to mental and physical harassment within a few months of her marriage in December 2024.

Ongoing Investigation and Forensic Analysis

Police have conducted videography of the postmortem examination, and additional sections will be invoked depending on the outcome of the investigation and forensic reports.

As the case unfolds, the community and media remain closely watching for updates and justice for Deepika.
