Ukrainian-Romanian Film "Dad's Lullaby" Set for Local Premiere at One World Romania

Lesia Diak's Dad's Lullaby , a co-production between Ukraine, Romania, and Croatia, is scheduled for its Romanian debut at the The One World Romania International Documentary and Human Rights Film Festival Scheduled to occur in Bucharest from April 4 through April 13.

The full-length documentary film is helmed by director Lesia Diak and produced by Diak along with Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan and Elena Martin via their production company, Filmways.

The movie tracks Ukrainian serviceman Serhiy Zinchuk as he comes back home following a three-year deployment at the Eastern front and faces challenges in rebuilding connections with his spouse and three children.

"Dad's Lullaby "is a narrative that urgently demands to be shared with the broadest conceivable audience at this very moment due to its exploration of war’s repercussions. Although it does not focus directly on warfare, it delves into how conflict fractures and devastates individuals' lives. This tale compels us to pause and contemplate our current volatile and precarious world situation," says producer Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan.

Lesia Diak is a Ukrainian filmmaker known for both directing and producing works. Her short films, showcased at numerous international film festivals, delve into genuine human relationships, experiences of trauma and recovery, as well as internal struggles. She established the film production firm DramaFree, through which she released her first full-length documentary. Dad's Lullaby She possesses a professional history in Communications and completed her studies with the graduation from DocNomads, an international masters program focused on documentary film making, in 2022. Currently, she resides and pursues her career in both Lisbon and Kyiv.

Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan is a film producer and an AMPAS/Oscar member. She produced the works of Lina Vdovîi and Radu Ciorniciuc. Tata , which was chosen at the Toronto International Film Festival 2024; of Vlad Petri's Between Revolutions , which won the FIPRESCI Prize at the Berlinale 2023; along with Radu Ciorniciuc's documentary Acasă/ My home , who won the Special Jury Award for Cinematography at Sundance. She also served as an appointed producer for Adina Pintilie's film that took home the prize at Berlinale. Elena Martin is a filmmaker who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Screenwriting and a Master’s degree in Film Production from the National University of Theatre and Film (UNATC) in Bucharest. She is a graduate of programs like CineLink Producers Lab, East-West Talent Lab, and Ex OrienteFilm and Series. Elena has contributed to various initiatives including several notable projects.
