On March 21, GNA - In Accra, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, encouraged graduates from the Accra Technical University (ATU) to uphold a spirit of innovation and guarantee that their gained knowledge stays pertinent and influential.

Your education has provided you with the instruments, yet it is your vision, values, and principles that will shape your enduring impact.

" Aim high with your dreams, work hard consistently, and keep seeking knowledge," he counselled.

This statement was delivered on behalf of the Minister during the 24th Convocation ceremony of ATU.

The event witnessed graduates receiving diplomas, higher national diplomas, certificates/diplomas/advanced diplomas from the Ghana Armed Forces, as well as bachelor’s degrees in technology.

From the 6,976 total graduates, 5,829 (83.56 percent) received their diplomas, whereas 1,147 (16.44 percent) did not receive them.

He stated that the event wasn’t merely a tribute to scholarly achievements; rather, it served as an acknowledgment of steadfast resolve and the profound influence of learning.

You have shown toughness, eagerness to learn, and the capability to adjust in a world that is changing at an unprecedented rate.

Your trip wasn’t easy; however, with your dedication, you conquered hurdles and came out as a winner.

He stated that the administration aimed to surpass conventional methods of education and cultivate critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills to address the requirements of the changing employment landscape.

He mentioned that the latest Ghana Education Forum highlighted intriguing conversations about the social funding of education and the improvement of infrastructure, amongst other topics, that require immediate consideration.

We need to establish a setting wherein students can flourish, which calls for consistent funding, cutting-edge approaches, and more robust collaborations among governmental bodies, private enterprises, and public institutions.

Our alumni should also become promoters of ongoing education and enhancement, striving for greatness not only in your individual talents but within the systems that mold our tomorrow.

Mr. Iddrisu encouraged the graduates to approach the future with confidence and a clear sense of purpose, noting that although the world is full of opportunities, it also presents many complexities.

Mr. Austin Gamey, a labour specialist, encouraged the graduates to back the 24-hour economy initiative as a means to create employment opportunities for young people.

He voiced his worries regarding the ineffective leadership approach in overseeing government bodies.

We intentionally dismantle organizations established during Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s era due to subpar management practices and low productivity.

"Ghana is a country that exhibits significant underproductivity, particularly in work environments," he stated.

Professor Amevi Acakpovi, who serves as the Acting Vice-Chancellor at ATU, mentioned that the university is currently in negotiations to sign an agreement with various global collaborators. These include institutions such as California Community Colleges, aimed at fostering knowledge sharing and enhancing digital learning via the Pan-African Virtual College initiative.

He urged the graduates to guide with honesty and make chances for other people.

"If you work in technology, leverage it to connect divides and tackle practical issues. In the field of education, motivate and strengthen the coming wave of leaders. And if your role is in service, advocate for those whose voices are unheard," he stated.

Altogether, 111 graduates received recognition for their outstanding achievements across different fields of study.

Mr Samuel Dawson secured the top position as the best graduating Bachelor of Technology in the accountancy program, whereas Ms Ali Rukayatu was honored as the outstanding female graduate in the same program.

They praised the lecturers and everyone who contributed to these accomplishments, and promised to share their expertise for the nation's progress.
