Yemi Alade Unveils New Single as Anticipation Builds for "Iyanu" Animated Series

The Afropop star Yemi Alade has released her newest single titled 'You Are,' an inspiring song that praises fortitude, perseverance, and cultural identity. According to a press release shared with Saturday Beats, this track was motivated by the forthcoming superhero fantasy show called 'Iyanu.' It comes out at the same time as a lyric video created by Lion Forge Entertainment, which includes animations from the TV series.

Referred to as "Mama Africa," Alade brings 'You Are' alive with her distinctive energetic vocals and deep cultural nuances, weaving a tale of personal exploration and fate. As Alade stated, "Music has consistently served as a potent medium to share our tales, and 'You Are' highlights our resilience and inherent might." She continued, "'You Are' serves as an uplifting song for those uncovering their potential. It's particularly special bringing this track into 'Iyanu,' which draws from Nigerian mythologies—a true privilege. This one goes out to all the young visionaries holding onto their destinies.”

The track was produced by Grammy-nominated musician Michael Hodges and jointly written by him along with Alade, Kayla Morrison, Gerald Trottman, and Ghian Wright. Hodges commended Alade’s contribution, saying, "Her vocal delivery perfectly captures the essence of this piece. The distinct vigor and sentiment she infuses into her singing truly encapsulate what this song is about."

For 'Iyanu' creator, executive producer, and series head Roye Okupe, this partnership holds particular significance. "Being a Nigerian storyteller and witnessing 'Iyanu' take shape has fulfilled my dreams," he stated. He further noted that Yemi Alade's track 'You Are' encapsulates the core elements of the show—the strength, tenacity, and enchantment of our cultural legacy. According to him, this music piece will motivate viewers just like Iyanu's story does."
