Key endorsements secure Connecticut governor’s third-term Democratic nomination

Following the receipt of numerous endorsements in recent weeks,ConnecticutGovernor Ned Lamont has received official support from the state’s Democratic party.
While Lamont campaigns for a third term in office, he secured 75% of the delegate vote at the Democratic State Convention held on Saturday at the Bushnell Performing Arts Center in Hartford.
In a statement released by his campaign, Lamont highlighted his history of progressive initiatives and financial prudence, vowing to keep “rebuilding Connecticut.”
He stated that the state’s Democratic party is unified by a distinct picture of what lies ahead.
“I am certain that when voters examine our track record of prioritizing working families, an economy that benefits all, significant investments in childcare and education, middle class tax reductions, and achieving debt reduction along with a balanced budget, they will decide to continue advancing Connecticut,” Lamont stated.
Lamont’s Democratic nomination follows his support from lawmakers, labor groups, and associations across Connecticut.

This week, his campaign revealed that he has also received support from UNITE HERE Local 217, a union that represents thousands of hospitality and food service employees throughout the state.
Lamont highlighted in his statement the significance of maintaining a strong and steady workforce.
“That begins with making sure each employee has the pay, perks, and solid union agreements they require not only to manage, but to establish a life and succeed in Connecticut,” Lamont stated.
Joshua Stanley, who serves as secretary and treasurer for UNITE HERE Local 217, stated that the Lamont Administration recognizes the importance of the labor movement in addressing the affordability crisis.
“The stakes for the working class are extremely high right now, and we back our governor, Ned Lamont, because he has consistently supported our members, not just with words but through actual policies that create real change,” Stanley stated.
Throughout the week, Lamont received support from various prominent political leaders in the state, such as Attorney General William Tong, Comptroller Sean Scanlon, and Treasurer Erick Russell.
Lamont expressed his pride in collaborating with a team that has successfully protected residents’ rights, maintained the rule of law, and achieved financial progress, which features eight straight balanced budgets, several credit rating improvements, and more than $11 billion in debt reduction.

We have achieved tangible outcomes,” Lamont stated. “And, we have defended Connecticut in court when the Trump Administration has overstepped, consistently prioritizing the values of our residents.
Scanlon praised Lamont’s leadership, highlighting that the state has experienced one of the nation’s most significant financial recoveries. Nevertheless, there is still additional work to be done.
“[Lamont] is aware that there is still much to accomplish, and I am honored to be collaborating with him to reduce healthcare expenses, enhance efficiency within the state government, and promote innovative approaches,” Scanlon stated.
Russell mentioned that Lamont has helped create prudent budgets, which better equip the state for whatever lies ahead.
“I’m honored to support Gov. Lamont’s re-election and to continue this collaboration,” Russell stated.
Tong has consistently been a highly effective team member for Lamont and is confident that teamwork will remain strong as the state works to defend the rights and liberties of its residents.
“Gov. Lamont has consistently supported this effort by advocating for reproductive freedom, immigrant families, and fundamental civil liberties that people rely on daily,” Tong stated.
Tong began his present position on January 9, 2019, the same day Lamont took office as governor. The two have gained nationwide recognition for their opposition to the federal government on various major matters.
Lamont and Tong are facing legal action from the U.S. Department of Justice for helping implement Connecticut laws that federal authorities claim endanger law enforcement personnel.
Throughout all challenges, Tong has remained loyal to Lamont. He wishes their collaboration can last for at least one more term.
“I’ve been proud to stand with him and achieve outcomes for Connecticut in court, safeguarding voting rights and supporting access to healthcare and SNAP benefits, while advocating for clean energy initiatives such as Revolution Wind that bring quality jobs and reduced expenses for families,” Tong stated.
In the end, Lamont will seek to leverage this support to gain momentum, as he pushes for increased affordability and opportunities in Connecticut.
On Saturday, the governor also addressed his 36-year-old rival, state Senator Ryan Fazio from Greenwich, who was selected by the Connecticut Republican party.
The Republicans are now unified in support of their candidate and the MAGA agenda,” Lamont stated. “We must not forget what is at stake. Our objective should be to come together in November and defeat the MAGA Republicans and the extremism emanating from President Trump. We are battling for our core values, our economic advancement, and our own community members.
