Consumers across Ireland are being urged to conduct a thorough check of their kitchens and medicine cabinets following a significant new wave of product recalls. A range of items, many of which were widely available at major national retailers, have been flagged for potential health and safety risks. Officials are strongly advising the public to either discard these recalled goods or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund to mitigate any potential harm.
Food Recalls: From Cheese to Ice Cream
The food sector has seen several high-profile recalls affecting a variety of popular products.
Cheese Concerns
A notable recall involves Boar’s Head Pecorino Romano grated tubs and wedges, which have been identified as potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified this as a Class I recall, signifying a "reasonable probability" of severe illness, particularly for vulnerable populations such as pregnant individuals and older adults.
In a separate, larger-scale recall, over 1.5 million bags of mozzarella-based shredded cheeses have been withdrawn from shelves. These products, sold under various labels at prominent retailers including Walmart, Aldi, and Target, are being recalled due to the potential presence of metal fragments. The extensive recall encompasses 64 different products, with sell-by dates extending through March 2026. Consumers are advised to meticulously check the Universal Product Codes (UPCs) and batch numbers against the official recall lists and to dispose of any affected packages.
Ice Cream Alert
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream has initiated a recall of its Passion Fruit Dreamsicle Ice Cream Bars. These bars were distributed nationwide, including to Kroger stores. Boxes bearing the batch code “25-210” are of particular concern as they may contain undeclared wheat and soy. These allergens can trigger severe reactions in sensitive individuals. Anyone who has consumed the product and is experiencing symptoms is strongly advised to seek immediate medical attention.
Mixed Nuts Warning
Wegmans has also issued a recall for two varieties of their Deluxe Unsalted Mixed Nuts. The reason for this recall is the potential contamination with Salmonella. The affected products are the 11.5-ounce and 32-ounce containers, identified by UPCs 0-77890-42135-2 and 0-77890-42131-4, with best-by dates falling in mid-2026. While no illnesses have been reported to date, consumers are urged to err on the side of caution by discarding or returning these products.
Health Product Recalls
Beyond food items, certain health and personal care products have also been subject to recalls.
Nasal Spray Contamination
Approximately 41,000 bottles of Walgreens Saline Nasal Spray with Xylitol have been pulled from the market. The recall is due to potential contamination with Pseudomonas lactis. The specific lots affected are identified as “71409,” which expires on February 28, 2027, and “71861,” with an expiry date of August 31, 2027. The FDA has issued a warning that immunocompromised users are at risk of serious infection. Individuals experiencing any symptoms are encouraged to contact a healthcare provider promptly.
Appliance Safety Alerts
The realm of home appliances has also seen safety concerns leading to recalls and alerts.
Camping Stove Fires and Explosions
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a significant recall affecting over 200,000 Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stoves, specifically model BG2247A1. This recall comes in response to 26 reports of fires or explosions and 16 associated injuries. These stoves were sold at Walmart from March 2023 to October 2025. Consumers are instructed to return the affected stoves immediately to receive a full refund.
Portable Kettle Burn Risk
Furthermore, the CPSC has issued an alert for Blongky portable car kettles, model FCC 390 Pro. These kettles were sold online through major platforms like Amazon, Walmart, and eBay. The alert follows nine reports of burn injuries sustained by users. The kettles have the potential to spew hot liquid or steam, posing a burn hazard. Users are strongly advised to cease using these kettles immediately as a formal recall process is underway.
Consumers are reminded to stay vigilant and to always check for product recalls, especially when purchasing items from large retailers or online marketplaces.
