Mark Redmond's journey from a rave promoter in the 1980s to a successful entrepreneur in the postal industry is nothing short of remarkable. What began as a temporary job during a period of financial hardship has evolved into a thriving business that now generates six figures annually.
A Change in Career Path
At the age of 26, Mark was deeply involved in the world of festivals and raves, organizing and marketing events. However, things took an unexpected turn when his festival work collapsed. The Royal Mail Experience
Working for Royal Mail provided Mark with a stable income, but it wasn't without its challenges. His tenure came to an abrupt end when he was fired due to a disagreement over a failed delivery. Rather than accepting the situation, Mark sought legal recourse and successfully won his case in court, proving that his dismissal was unfair.
The compensation he received from the court settlement gave him the financial cushion needed to pursue his own venture. This experience not only taught him about the importance of standing up for himself but also sparked the idea for his future business.
Launching The Private Postman
Inspired by his time as a postman, Mark founded The Private Postman in 2009. His unique approach focused on using GPS tracking for leaflet deliveries, a concept that was relatively new at the time. This innovation addressed the trust issues many companies faced when outsourcing their leaflet distribution.
Starting with just a small area in Kensal Rise, Mark quickly gained traction. On the first day of promoting his new company, he secured £1,500 worth of work from his first client, setting the stage for future success.
Growth and Expansion
The Private Postman quickly grew, turning over £60,000 in its first year. Today, the company boasts a turnover of over £850,000 annually, delivering more than two million leaflets each month. It has partnered with notable clients such as Harrods, the NHS, and global restaurant chains.
Mark's vision for the future includes developing a new app to enhance delivery accuracy and provide businesses with greater transparency. His goal is to sell this system to other distribution companies, ultimately making the entire industry more efficient.
