A Confusing Delivery Experience

A young woman in Melbourne, Geri Santiago, 23, recently shared her frustrating experience with a DoorDash delivery. She ordered a $90 haul from Chemist Warehouse but ended up receiving frozen pizzas, some groceries, and a loaf of bread instead.

Ms. Santiago decided to order online because she didn't want to leave the house due to the cold weather. She placed her order at 3:50 pm and was given an estimated delivery time of 4:20 pm. However, ten minutes later, she checked her app and noticed that the driver was still sitting in the Chemist Warehouse parking lot.

After realizing the driver hadn’t moved for another 20 minutes, Ms. Santiago tried calling and messaging him without any response. She claims that DoorDash’s support bot kept telling her to wait another five minutes, which eventually led her to call customer support.

Progress seemed to be made when customer support called the driver as he began driving to Ms. Santiago's home.

However, the situation took a turn when the driver arrived at her house and stood awkwardly in front of her, claiming he had brought the wrong order. He put the groceries back in the boot, scrolled on his phone for a minute, and then came up to her front door. He asked for the pin code to complete the delivery.

Ms. Santiago questioned whether he had her order from Chemist Warehouse, to which he replied "No." She then explained that she couldn’t give him the pin code without her order. She added that if he went back to Chemist Warehouse and brought her the correct order, she would happily provide the pin.

The driver then stormed off, got on his phone, and drove away. Ms. Santiago called DoorDash support again, and while on hold, she claimed the driver returned with the same order and the same request.

She locked her screen door, and the situation continued in circles. Eventually, she closed the door and locked it, frustrated by the ongoing issue.

Ms. Santiago mentioned that DoorDash contacted Chemist Warehouse around the same time, which confirmed that the order was never picked up. As a result, she requested a new driver. The customer service agent later confirmed with Chemist Warehouse that the driver had never actually collected her order, which made the whole situation even more bizarre since he had been sitting in the parking lot for almost an hour while she waited.

"I didn’t want a man to keep coming to my house, asking for a code for an order that he didn’t have," she said. By this point, it was 5:50 pm, and DoorDash apologized, provided a refund, a $7 credit, and assigned her a new driver.

The Most Confusing Part of the Ordeal

The most confusing part of the ordeal for Ms. Santiago was that the driver knew he had the wrong order the entire time. Once she explained that the groceries weren’t hers and asked whether he had her Chemist Warehouse order, he acknowledged that he didn’t. Despite that, he continued asking her for the pin code required to complete the delivery.

Although she was appalled by how the situation unfolded, Ms. Santiago said she didn’t feel it reflected the company as a whole.

"I’m sure there are plenty of great DoorDash drivers out there, and I don’t think this experience is representative of everyone who delivers for the platform," she said. "However, this particular situation has definitely left a bad taste in my mouth."

Daily Mail has contacted DoorDash for comment.
