The National Hockey League (NHL) offseason is in full swing, with teams across the league making strategic moves to strengthen their rosters. With the NHL Draft set to begin on Friday night, this is the final opportunity for clubs to include 2026 draft picks in potential trades. As a result, several major deals have already been completed, with both high-profile players and draft picks changing hands.
Among the biggest names already on the move are Brady Tkachuk and Bowen Byram, while players such as Vincent Trocheck and Connor Hellebuyck continue to surface in trade rumors. With free agency just a week away, teams are looking to reshape their rosters before the market opens.
Major Trades and Transactions
Devils send Jacob Markstrom to Panthers
On June 30, the Devils sent Jacob Markstrom and Angus Crookshank to Florida in exchange for Evan Rodriques, Jesper Boqvist, and Ben Steeves. Markstrom has two years left on his contract, and this deal likely signals that Sergei Bobrovsky will not be back in Florida.
Hurricanes acquire UFA rights to John Carlson
On June 27, the Hurricanes acquired the UFA rights to John Carlson from Anaheim in exchange for the sixth-round pick and Kyle Masters. Carlson will hit free agency in less than a week, and Carolina now has exclusive rights to try and get a deal done until July 1.
Avalanche, Bruins swap players
On June 27, Colorado sent Ivan Ivan to Boston for Fabian Lysell in a one-for-one swap. Ivan has nine points in 49 career NHL games, while Lysell has three points in 12 games.
Rangers trade Adam Edstrom to the Predators
On June 27, the Rangers received pick No. 148 and Massimo Rizzo in exchange for Adam Edstrom. Edstrom is a 25-year-old forward who has played in 97 games over three seasons in the NHL.
Blues land Brandon Carlo from Toronto
On June 27, St. Louis sent the Maple Leafs two third-round picks for the veteran defenseman, who has one year left on his deal worth $4.1 million overall. The picks are both in this year's draft, as St. Louis had a plethora of selections entering the two days.
Red Wings send Sebastian Cossa to Utah
On June 26, Detroit added a first-round pick by sending Sebastian Cossa to Utah. Cossa was a 2021 first-round pick who made just one game at the NHL level, and now could be the goalie of the future for the Mammoth.
Blues acquire Mason McTavish for two first-round picks
On June 26, the Blues acquired Mason McTavish from the Ducks in a deal that nets Anaheim the No. 15 and No. 29 overall picks. McTavish, still only 23, is coming off a 41-point season with the Ducks.
Rangers land Pavel Dorofeyev from Golden Knights
On June 26, the Rangers acquired forward Pavel Dorofeyev from the Golden Knights in exchange for two first-round picks and a third-round pick. The deal does not include tonight's No. 5 pick, but it does include the Stars' first-rounder.
Bruins send two first-round picks for JJ Peterka
On June 26, the Bruins acquired Mammoth forward JJ Peterka in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick and the Panthers' top-10 protected 2028 first-round pick.
Blue Jackets listening to offers for Zach Werenski
On June 26, the Blue Jackets have started listening to trade offers for reigning Norris Trophy winner Zach Werenski, according to Pierre LeBrun. Reports had indicated Columbus wouldn't talk Werenski trades until after the draft, but with the draft getting underway, the Blue Jackets are at least starting the process.
Blackhawks, Senators make pre-draft deal
On June 26, the Blackhawks sent Andre Burakovsky to Ottawa in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round draft pick. Burakovsky, 31, was an inconsistent depth scorer with the Blackhawks, sometimes playing on Connor Bedard's line. It's little more than a cap dump for Chicago, which can use the $5.5 million in savings to go big-game hunting on the trade market.
Sabres keep dealing, acquire Bowen Byram replacement from Ducks
On June 26, the Sabres acquired defenseman Olen Zellweger from the Ducks in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick and forward prospect Anton Wahlberg. Buffalo GM Jarmo Kekalainen said the Sabres would actively look to replace Bowen Byram on the blue line, and wasted no time.
Red Wings send Amadeus Lombardi to Devils for draft pick
On June 25, New Jersey added youngster Amadeus Lombardi to its ranks, sending a 2026 fourth-round pick to the Red Wings in exchange for the 23-year-old. Lombardi, a fourth-round pick in the 2022 Draft, has yet to play an NHL game. He has tallied 82 points in his last 91 AHL games, however.
Avalanche deal Valeri Nichushkin to Blue Jackets
On June 25, the Avalanche traded veteran Valeri Nichushkin to the Blue Jackets in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick, 2027 third-round pick and 2028 fifth-round pick. Nichushkin posted 49 points on 17 goals and 32 assists across 72 games with Colorado last season and had been with the Avalanche since 2019, winning the Stanley Cup in 2022.
Penguins get Hendrix Lapierre from Capitals
On June 25, Washington is staying busy, this time trading away a player. The Capitals are sending young forward Hendrix Lapierre to the Penguins in exchange for a third-round pick in 2027 and a fifth-round pick in 2028. Lapierre, 24, was a first-round pick in 2020 and had 16 points in 74 games for Washington last season.
Panthers trade for Garnet Hathaway
On June 25, the Panthers are adding to their bottom-six, acquiring veteran winger Garnet Hathaway and a 2026 sixth-round pick from the Flyers for a fifth-round pick in 2026 and a fourth-round pick in 2027. Hathaway, 34, had three points in 66 games for Flyers this past season, and is known more for his defensive game than his offensive ability.
Hurricanes listening on Alexander Nikishin
On June 25, just a couple of weeks after hoisting the Stanley Cup, Alexander Nikishin is now in the midst of trade rumors. The 24-year-old defenseman is an RFA, and considering Carolina's cap crunch, the team is listening to offers. Darren Dreger reports it's a "strong market" with "up to six teams" in the mix for the young Russian.
Predators get Jack Drury from Avalanche
On June 24, the full deal is Drury, Chase Bradley and a third-round pick for Fedor Svechkov and Zachary L'Heureux. Drury, who began his career with the Hurricanes, had 27 points in 82 games for Colorado last season.
Stars still negotiating extension with Jason Robertson
On June 24, the star forward is a restricted free agent this year and is a prime offer sheet candidate if he hits the market. Dallas would like to retain him, but the Stars could decide to sell high and add a boatload of assets if the team can't sign him longterm.
Capitals to acquire Alex Tuch in sign-and-trade
On June 24, Tuch was set to hit free agency as one of the best players available but instead will sign an eight-year deal worth $10.5 million per season to join the Capitals. Buffalo will get a third-round pick back in return.
Bowen Byram heads from Sabres to Blackhawks for fourth overall pick
On June 23, Chicago sends Buffalo the No. 4 overall pick, the No. 45 overall pick, and defenseman Louis Crevier in exchange for Bowen Byram and Jordan Greenway. Byram is the clear centerpiece of the deal and is due for a new contract after this season, but he becomes a key part of the Blackhawks' rebuild alongside Connor Bedard.
Blues send Jordan Kyrou to Capitals
On June 23, the Capitals are pushing their chips in this offseason, as they send their first-round pick this year and prospects Connor McMichael and Milton Gastrin for Kyrou, who has had at least 67 points in four of his eight NHL seasons. Washington gets Kyrou with five years left on his contract, while St. Louis now has four first-round picks this year.
Senators acquire William Eklund from Sharks for ninth overall pick
On June 23, Ottawa is sending the ninth overall pick, which it just got in the Brady Tkachuk deal, to San Jose for a package of players headlined by Eklund, who should help fill the void left by Tkachuk. The Senators also get Kasper Halttunen and Brandon Svoboda in the deal, but Eklund is the headliner as he had back-to-back 50-point seasons in the last two years.
Flames get Simon Nemec from Devils for multiple first round picks
On June 23, Nemec is a former No. 2 overall pick who gets a fresh start in Calgary, but that comes at a hefty cost. In return, the Devils get a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 first-round pick, the No. 35 overall pick and D Etienne Morin, giving New Jersey a large selection of draft assets moving forward.
Panthers land Brady Tkachuk in blockbuster
On June 21, Florida now pairs both Tkachuck brothers as they agree to a deal to get the star forward from Ottawa. Tkachuk seemed to be ready for a new start, so the Senators land multiple first round picks, including two in this year's draft, and now turn their attention elsewhere.
Kraken acquire F Mackie Samoskevich from Panthers
On June 21, Seattle sent Florida the No. 25 overall pick this year and a conditional second next year to get the 23-year-old forward. Samoskevich played in 149 games over the past two seasons and produced 64 total points.
Lightning send Darren Raddysh to Maple Leafs in sign-and-trade
On June 19, Raddysh will sign an eight-year deal with Toronto that is worth over $8 million per season. In return, the Lightning are getting a fifth-round pick in the 2026 draft.
Avalanche send Predators Ross Colton in deal
On June 16, Colton and Isak Posch are headed to Nashville for two third-round picks Magnus Chrona. The deal was made between Joe Sakic and Chris MacFarland, who worked together until MacFarland joined Nashville last month.
