Nigerian Man Makes History as Appointed to Texas Board

Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has named a U.S.-based Nigerian accountant, Kenneth Omoruyi, to serve as a member of the state’s Board of Public Accountancy.

Omoruyi was listed alongside the board chairman, Jeannette Smith, as well as three additional members: Grant Coates, Jill Holup, and James Trippon.

Abbott announced this in a statement posted on the Texas State website last Friday, noting that the term would end on January 31, 2031.

Nevertheless, he stated that the confirmations hinged upon approval from the Senate.

Omoruyi participates in the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants – Houston Nominating Committee, serves on the Leadership Council of the Texas CPA Society, and holds positions within both the AICPA Sophisticated Tax Conference and the Professional Ethics Executive Committees.

Part of the statement said, "The board safeguards the public interest by confirming that individuals granted certifications as certified public accountants have acquired the required education, skills, and abilities, and that they execute their duties effectively within the field of public accounting."

On his LinkedIn profile, Omoruyi commented regarding the appointment, "With a heart filled with gratitude and an unwavering dedication, I welcome this opportunity while pledging to maintain the most stringent professional benchmarks."
