Athleisure Ascends: Carli Lloyd Champions Spring Style and the Evolution of Women's Sports

The sporty aesthetic is no longer confined to the gym or the field; it has firmly planted its flag on the fashion landscape for Spring 2026. From the undeniable dominance of sneakers to the rise of tech-infused jackets, athleisure is officially in full swing. Leading the charge in embracing this comfortable yet stylish movement is none other than two-time Olympic gold medalist and FIFA Women's World Cup champion, Carli Lloyd.

The former professional soccer star, widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, has joined forces with Tek Gear by Kohl’s for their spring campaign. This activewear line is thoughtfully designed to cater to "every age, body, and budget," offering inclusive options that include plus sizes and adaptive styles. The collection emphasizes performance-enhancing features such as moisture-wicking, breathable, and stretchy fabrics, all engineered to "support movement," as highlighted in a recent press release.

Lloyd herself expressed her enthusiasm for the brand, noting her personal connection to its accessibility. "I don’t typically go to a nine-to-five job every day or have to get dressed up for an office, so I obviously love the Tek Gear activewear pieces," she shared. "Tek Gear, and Kohl’s in general, offers affordable, quality pieces for everybody." She also touched upon the brand's long-standing presence in her family's life. "My mom has shopped at Kohl’s for me and my siblings growing up, and now we have our daughter, so it’s kind of a one-stop shop for the whole family."

While Lloyd's current schedule is far from a traditional nine-to-five, it is undeniably packed. Beyond her role as a mother, she is gearing up to serve as a correspondent for the upcoming 2026 Men's World Cup with Fox Sports this summer. "The '26 World Cup is going to be the biggest and best," Lloyd stated. "So, I think for me to be part of the talent and the group of people that will be on the desk in studio… to be a female…. It’s pretty awesome to be covering a men’s World Cup. I’m very grateful to be able to have this opportunity."

Spring Activewear: Carli Lloyd's Go-To Tek Gear Picks

In the interim, Lloyd is embracing the spring season by staying active, with Tek Gear by her side. "It’s been a rough winter, so I cannot wait to just get outside on the golf course, go for some runs, and even just take walks with our daughter," she enthused. When asked about her favorite pieces from the collection, Lloyd didn't hesitate.

  • Tek Gear Ultrastretch High-Waisted Leggings: These are a staple for Lloyd, who admitted, "I feel like I’m in leggings constantly." She highlighted their versatility, making them her preferred choice for all outdoor activities.
  • Tek Gear Essential Core Tee: A foundational piece for building various athletic looks.
  • Run Shorts: Practical and comfortable for any kind of movement.
  • Sports Bras: Essential for support and comfort during workouts.

Lloyd revealed her styling strategy: "I like to mix and match them for different looks." She often completes these ensembles with her beloved Nike Jordans or Dunks, proving that athleisure can be both functional and fashionable.

The Evolving Landscape of Women's Sports and Fashion

Beyond her personal style choices, Lloyd also commented on the broader evolution of fashion and women's sports. "I definitely think there’s a lot more options and athleisure styles that women feel comfortable wearing today," she observed. "And they’re not only comfortable, but they also look good as well."

This evolution extends to the athletic arena itself. "And obviously on the soccer field, things have evolved as well," Lloyd added. "Women’s uniforms have less of the boxy cut and more tapered looks. That stuff is always evolving."

The transformation Lloyd has witnessed in women's soccer over her illustrious 17-year professional career is nothing short of remarkable. "When I first was on the national team in 2005, we were barely pushing 5,000 fans at our games. And now, obviously, we’re selling out stadiums," she recalled. The improvements are not just in attendance; "From a financial standpoint, players are getting paid more. Facilities and standards and treatment and care — all of those things matter, and they’ve gotten a lot better."

This upward trajectory is palpable across women's sports as a whole. Lloyd has seen a significant surge in the hype and support surrounding female athletes, a trend that has become increasingly evident in recent years, particularly around major events like the Olympics and the WNBA season. "Women’s sports, I feel like in general, are just on this trajectory and continuing to take off, which is really cool," she expressed. "It’s no longer just a charity to get involved with women’s sports. Maybe you have a daughter, and you want to own a team. It’s like a business now. People are investing, and it’s great to see."

As the spring weather finally graces Canada, ushering in the season for outdoor activities like golf, pickleball tournaments, and casual strolls, it's the perfect opportunity to refresh your activewear collection. Consider taking inspiration from Carli Lloyd's favorite Tek Gear pieces, many of which are currently available at promotional prices.
