2026 Women and Non-Binary WScripted Screenplay List Revealed

EXCLUSIVE:Wscripted has released its sixth Cannes Screenplay List, highlighting works from female and non-binary filmmakers and screenwriters looking for production and funding collaborators. (scroll down for the complete list)

The list is presented in collaboration with MUBI, a longstanding advocate for women in film, which has recently acquired films directed by women, including the opening title of Cannes 2026's Un Certain Regard section.Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma by Jane Schoenbrun.

The 30 scripts featured on this year's list includeWhen We Were Sistersby Fatimah Asghar, recognized for her work on the HBO web seriesBrown Girls and Ms. Marvel on Disney+.

Sri Lankan-British director Chloe Abrahams is also highlighted with her debut narrative filmBefore the Echo Produces a Noise, set in Sri Lanka. She had earlier gained attention withThe Taste of Mango, which received the British Independent Film Award for Best First Documentary and the Audience Prize at the BFI London Film Festival.

Angelique Knights, who received a Canadian Screen Award for her work as a producer ofBria Mack Finds a New Beginning, has also been chosen along with her first feature as a directorEcdysis, set in the world of music video performers during the peak of music television in the 2000s.

In a recent update, the list was shared with producers on the new digital platform Wscripted+ in an effort to improve project matchmaking.

"After five years of presenting projects from the Cannes Screenplay List to producers at the Cannes Film Market, we chose to approach things differently for 2026, allowing producers to explore the shortlist directly through Wscripted+'s advanced technology," said Ellie Jamen, Founder of Wscripted.

Jamen mentioned that Wscripted was aiming to reduce the time required for development and funding using the new system.

We wager on cutting-edge technology to eliminate obstacles, enabling creators to find suitable projects that align with their artistic vision. This is a crucial aspect of our mission to support the remarkable projects by women featured on the Cannes Screenplay List.

Recent successful Wscripted projects from previous nominees include the pre-sale of Jumai Yusuf’sCocoa Doll, which was included in the Second Cannes Screenplay List. It has since been purchased by international sales agent Fearfolks, with Jake Casey and Jonathan Unger serving as producers.

Nathalie Marchak's A Beautiful Journey, shortlisted on the Inaugural Cannes Screenplay List, also revealed Shailene Woodley as the main actress, with Anonymous Federation and Gabman in charge of production.

Wscripted got 300 submissions this year for this year's list.
