New Hosts Announced for Strictly Come Dancing
Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe, and Johannes Radebe have been officially named as the new hosts of Strictly Come Dancing. The BBC has unveiled the trio to take over from long-standing presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
Willis, known for hosting The Voice and Big Brother, will step into Daly’s role as the main host of the show. Widdicombe will take on the responsibility of hosting the “Clauditorium,” a segment previously managed by Winkleman. Meanwhile, Radebe will serve as a roving reporter, adding a fresh perspective to the program.
A Major Change in the Show's Line-Up
Last month, nine potential successors were put through their paces during a full-scale reconstruction of a live Strictly Come Dancing episode. This was part of an effort to find the right mix of personalities to lead the show forward.
The decision to replace Daly and Winkleman came after a series of controversies that rocked the show earlier this year. These included allegations of bullying against pro dancer Giovanni Pernice, the dismissal of dancer Graziano Di Prima for allegedly kicking his celebrity partner, and reprimands for contestant Wynne Evans for making inappropriate comments. There were also reports of alleged cocaine use by two stars.
An investigation into a star accused of rape was closed due to insufficient evidence. Despite these challenges, the 2026 series is set to begin in September with returning judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke.
Returning Dancers and Stars
The professional dancers returning from the 2025 series include Alexis Warr, Amy Dowden, Aljaz Skorjanec, Dianne Buswell, Johannes Radebe, Jowita Przystal, Julian Caillon, Kai Widdrington, Katya Jones, Lauren Oakley, Nancy Xu, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Vito Coppola, and Carlos Gu. Carlos Gu won last year’s series alongside former England footballer Karen Carney.
The Decision Behind the New Hosts
The Strictly producers conducted rigorous “chemistry tests” which led to the exclusion of fan-favorites Zoe Ball and Rylan Clark. The final choice may seem like an unexpected mix, but it is seen as a bold move by the production team.
Willis, who is well-known for her work on live TV shows, brings empathy and experience to the role. Her presence could potentially create a Saturday night clash if ITV’s talent show returns. Widdicombe, known for his comedic style, impressed during auditions with his quick wit and off-the-wall humor.

Widdicombe will need to adapt to a more family-friendly image, as some of his “edgier” podcast content has recently been removed from platforms. Radebe, who was previously announced to return as a professional dancer, adds diversity to the line-up. This is seen as important by insiders, as it gives younger audiences a figure to relate to.
Will the Trio Work Well Together?
The question remains whether the trio will gel under the high-profile Strictly spotlight this Autumn. The BBC hopes that the focus will stay on the glitz and glamour of the show rather than any lingering scandals. The new hosts underwent a “vetting” process to ensure they are suitable for the role.
What the BBC Has Said
Kate Phillips, the BBC’s chief content officer, said: “Emma, Johannes and Josh’s chemistry is undeniable. There’s been so much speculation and hype, so I’m relieved we can share the news with the public at last! I’d like to thank all the brilliant people we saw before making this tough decision.”
Sarah James, executive producer of Strictly Come Dancing for BBC Studios, added: “We are absolutely thrilled to finally share this wonderful news. The combination of Emma, Josh, and Jojo was unexpected, but their magic was undeniable the moment they came together. Emma brings a wealth of presenting experience and a natural warmth — she truly belongs in the ballroom and will guide our new celebrity cast through their Strictly journeys with love and care.”
“Josh had us all in stitches with his unique style of self-deprecating humour and razor-sharp wit — and let’s not forget, he got a 10 from Anton in the Christmas Special, so I think he already considers himself a pro dancer, and then there’s Jojo – a one-of-a-kind talent who’s been a beloved part of the Strictly family for eight years.”
Emma Willis’ Reaction
One of the new presenters, Emma Willis, expressed her excitement: “It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Strictly – I’ve cheered and danced along from my sofa for years – so to be stepping into the Strictly ballroom is something I can’t quite comprehend. It’s impossible to fill the shoes that Tess and Claudia have left behind – two wonderful, iconic women who have been the beating heart of Strictly for so long. I can only hope that we are able to help to steer the ship as beautifully as they have, into this new chapter. I can’t wait to spend my weekends with Josh and Jojo, the incredible dancers and the judges. Fingers crossed for a 10 from them.”
