The Debut of FEED IT

Italian studio Games On A Chair has set a date for its debut game, and it's coming up fast. FEED IT launches on Steam on August 17, as confirmed by publisher Pretty Soon today. We first covered the game back in May when it was revealed with its unsettling premise fully intact: you live with an insatiable monster, and your only real leverage is whether you feed it or feed yourself.

A Unique Horror Experience

FEED IT's premise is still the most interesting thing about it. You're locked in a symbiotic relationship with an ever-hungry monster: do as you're told, or feel its wrath. But your own body has needs too, and every scrap of food you find becomes a choice. Feed yourself and regain enough strength to escape. Feed your unwanted houseguest and buy yourself a little more time. The game draws explicit inspiration from Silent Hill and Mouthwashing, leaning into psychological discomfort over jump scares, which is exactly the lane that's been producing some of the most memorable horror releases of the last few years.

Design and Structure

Structurally, FEED IT is designed as a short-form, replayable experience. Exploration and minimal interactions do the heavy lifting, and the maze-like locations you scavenge through actively change around you as you play. The game leans hard into disorientation as a horror tool rather than combat or chase sequences. Where the hell are you? Who are you? Who's knocking at the door? FEED IT isn't in a hurry to answer any of that, and that restraint is clearly the point.

From Reveal to Release

FEED IT was initially announced back in May 2026, and per today's release announcement, the response was immediate: several thousand wishlists and genuine praise from horror fans within the game's first days of existing publicly. That's a meaningful signal for a debut studio's first commercial release. Horror audiences on Steam are notoriously discerning, and a strong wishlist run out of the gate usually means the pitch (PSX-style visuals, a genuinely novel central mechanic, clear genre lineage) landed exactly as intended.

Personal Touch from the Developers

Commenting on the game approaching release, the Games On A Chair team said: "We've been pouring so much blood and sweat into this game, and we cannot wait to get it into the player's hands! It comes from a deeply personal place, and we sincerely hope it will resonate just as deeply with people. That's our ultimate goal as artists, designers and creators."

That kind of statement could read as boilerplate coming from a bigger studio, but Games On A Chair's own "About" material backs it up. The team describes itself as a small, intimate group of friends who came together specifically to make games that go beyond mere entertainment, and frames FEED IT as a direct response to an industry they see as increasingly filled with "soulless slop" and "uninspired titles." Whatever you make of that framing, it's clear the team is treating this launch as something personal rather than just another Steam release.

Publisher Support

Published by Pretty Soon, the Poland-based indie publisher whose mission is built specifically around supporting solo developers and small teams, FEED IT seems to be in good hands. The publisher's catalog includes Backpack Hero, one of the more beloved deckbuilder roguelikes of the last few years, alongside Scale the Depths, Havendock, Small Spaces, Primal Planet, and Project P.I.T.T. That's a publisher with a demonstrated eye for distinctive, small-scale indie projects rather than a scattershot portfolio, which bodes well for how FEED IT gets supported through launch and beyond.
